I have ran across a few comments suggesting that as an engine ages the duration of the OCI should be shortened. An example would be if you were running 10K OCI's and now have 150k on the engine, one should go down to 6k OCI's. Any truth to this? If so why?

Never heard of this (higher mileage-->shorter OCI).
There will be lots of arguments and counterarguments on this one if you seriously wants BITOGers to debate but frankly, I will only offer my own subject point here:
-so long as your engine is in-tune, well maintained and what not, IMHO OCI intervals shall not deviate much as the mileage goes up (again, unless you are suffering from valve sealing problems, valve stem seal leaks, sticky rings that lead to elevated oil consumption problems, stucked/clogged PCV valves, etc. which, 1/2 of these things are attributed to proper mechanical maintenance).

However, I can see myself and many others doing a shorter OCI if the engine has racked up a lot of miles. Not because it needs it, but rather, it makes us feel better.
So I say to you. Whatever would make you feel better is the right choice for you.

Actually I read this somewhere...as engines age they are "dirtier" and therefore OCI should be shortened. Don't remember where.

Never heard of this... I think it would be posted in the Owners Manual if it were needed.
Well, if the oil turns black in 500 miles, indicating massive blow-by, you might want to go with the shorter interval. The oil will be full of gas and soot.
Barring obvious symptoms of wear and age, I'd be inclined to agree that there is no point in shorter changes.
