OK. Hogwash time. Employer gives me and my peers new iPhones, allegedly so we can send encrypted technical info to each other. That's their version of the fairly tale. I think it's so they can track our movements using GPS. In other words, no nights at home with the hound unless it's OK with them. Or no extra long lunch hours at the golf course. Have any of you ever purchased a pouch or case that makes the phone disappear off the grid? Thanks.

What line of work are you in? Salaried? Why can't you leave the phone at work?

Seems like they would have better things to do that track people. However-if they suspect a problem that's a different story.

I was in outside sales all my life. I never left my house before 8:30 a.m.

I always met my numbers....they left me alone.

Well, If I was given a tool to perform a particular task and I did not perform that task (or seldom performed that task) I would probably keep said tool in my desk...

So - how often do you send encrypted technical information from said phone...?

What MDM software is loaded to the phones?

I administer a vmware airwatch server, the MDM basically gets root of your phone and has complete control of it.

There is a feature that we do not use, but it can track location of cell phone down to a few feet, and log it on a map.

I have a company car and iPhone. Boss doesn't track our location, just productivity reports on what we did.

Yeah, turn off your location setting.

Yeah, just shut the location service off.

Wrapping it in something like a faraday cage would probably stop all signals and be the equivalent of shutting the phone off, or putting it into airplane mode. In that case, you might just as well shut it off.

Aluminium foil. Ive read cops have been instructed to wrap siezed phones in alum foil to prevent them from being remotely erased before a warrant and tech service can get it and unlock it.

Just an FYI..that will not work. Even with location services off the phone can be tracked..trust me, the GPS chip is live all the time. Without GPS (like in a building) the phone can located by near-by Wi-Fi broadcasts or cell tower resolution anyways.

Even if the phone is turned off..it can be tracked remotely too.

To be absolutely certain..take the battery out of the phone..if it is removable.

Don't know if aluminum foil works..maybe. Try it and see if Wi-Fi or cell tower signals are available.

You'd have to completely wrap it for it to work. So no reading the screen.
Should be able to call it and see if it rings though.

How so? I wasn't aware of this....

I could care less if the company tracks me. If they are going to bust my balls on every little thing I do they can find a new employee. A company that is going to nit pick everything is not one you should work for but that is not an excuse for taking advantage of the company.

My work truck is tracked by gps. They can see all info on my work phone and laptop. I have a company credit card and am responsible for managing my time and area. I talk to my boss maybe once every two weeks. They are paying my very well to be responsible for a lot of assets and keeping them from loosing money. They can track me all they want.

Seems to me one's paranoia defensiveness is only as high as one 'sets it' via their actions.

If you have nothing to hide, then IMHO, you should have no reason to be defensive about the companies ability to monitor THEIR property (the phone)

The fact that you're that defensive about your employer's interest in providing you a useful tool tells me that perhaps you have something to hide.

They gave you the phone to do your job. If you're doing your job, then stop overthinking things. If you're NOT doing your job, then maybe you should start.

Sir Tanon: Did you ever consider that there are companies out there who have no consideration of your time? Have you ever heard of people who don't get to go on vacation? Companies who think you're available to them 24/7, and that you must explain yourself when you want time off? They are out there. I work for one. Not doing my job? Stupid thing to say. I do it well, and the more I do for them, the more they want. The people who don't do their job are the ones who are let off the hook. You sound kind of naive, like you haven't been around much, or live in some fairy tale world. Some employers reward incompetence, and punish competence. Now, get back to work for your magnamamous employer. If you don't know anything about technology, which is what I was asking for, maybe you should have sat out for this thread.
