I know little of Valvetrain Tech...this is for a naturally Aspirated 3800 V6 GM.

Which one will have smoothest idle...or better phrased please describe the idle pattern.

The 1st is a bump over stock second is for "highly-modified engines" (springs, valves etc)

Will the 1st or Second kill low end power do you predict?

Generally speaking, the 1st - bump over stock will have a smoother (relative) idle over the highly modified cam. But the idle may still be rougher than stock.

The second will usually have less low end power than stock and should have more high rpm power than stock.

The two cams you list the specs for at the end of your note do not seem very far apart (i.e. duration, lift, etc..) I would not expect extreme amounts of different output from the two.

I'm guessing stock is around 200 deg @ 0.050. In that case, the second one is way too big for a stock-ish engine, unless you like a lopey idle, and loss of low end. It seems more suited to an engine with upgraded exhaust, heads, and intake.

First one should idle fairly smooth, and give a nice boost in the 2000-5000 range. Of course, I am basing my assumptions on what works in small block Chevy engines.

Also, what is the seat or ".006 (advertised) duration? A cam with long seat duration may be lazy closing the valve, and result in a loss of dynamic compression ratio. If the first cam has seat durations similar to stock, and gets more 0.050" duration through aggresive lobes, you might not sacrifice any low end torque. Two cams with identical lift, LSA, and 0.050" duration can behave very differently in real applications. Advertised duration definitely plays into the equation.

Talk to the cam company about your specific application and go from there. They will be able to steer you in the right direction.
