I dunno - HOW!!!!?????

Oh I know the claims are complete **...just wondering if it would still have some use at all...or if it completely does nothing.

sorry but having that thing rattle around in my oil filter isnt my idea of safe. if I want a magnet. I will place one on the outside of my filter.

Love it! Bet it works great magnetizing the center of an E-core!
" OIL FILTER MAGNETS
Converts any spin-on oil filter into a super filter!
Removes 40 times more grit than a filter alone!
Helps prevent friction and premature engine wear
The most important improvement in engine preventative maintenance since the invention of the oil filter! Simply insert Magna-Guard™ into the oil filter. Magna-Guard, the most advanced ceramic magnet made, magnetizes the core of the filter to trap metal contaminates as small as 0.5 micron. Plus it ensures better oil flow and lubrication during the life of the filter. Virtually maintenance free and rated to withstand temperatures of 842° F. Insoluble in oil. SAE tested engine safe."

Yea, teh e-core is gonna get them sued.

Also, how does a magnet know when particles ar bigger than 0.5 microns? If it is made of Iron, it will stick no matter what.

I'm missing something here. When you drop it in the hole, do you not get it back? Do you have to either keep buying these things or cut the filter open each time?

I don't think it'll rattle around, because since its a magnet it should stick to the steel core of the filter. But then, as pointed out above, if it sticks to the filter core it could be a chore getting it out of there. And then of course there will come a time when you forget its in there and toss out the filter with the magnet in it.

Turn your drain plug into a magnet. Place it on the back of a speaker over night or have 2 plugs and leave the second on the rear of the speaker(magnet) until the next change. I do this to a screw driver and use it as a magnet to hold screws to get into tight locations. Will the drain plug as a magnet really help catch fine particles?

Nifty, you just sparked an idea for me. I have access to a degausser in our magnaflux room. Depending on how the unit is used, a part can either be demagnetized or it can be magnetized.

Somebody tell me why I shouldn't take my entire stash of oil filters and magnetize them?

Why? you might screw up the bypass spring if it is magnetic! The thought that the bypass valve is magnetically stuck open or closed might be an issue.

If you want a magnet, source some from a crashed harddrive. Or, just google/ebay neodymium and spend $10 and have enough externally mounted reusable magnets for every car in the neighborhood.

Any magnet that is on the output of the filter flow is going to become a flow restriction. I wonder who the clown was that came up with that idea?

Check out their oil analysis kit:

I can't see a reason not too. Anyone can do it. Just wrap a coil around your filter (the more the better) and run it across a DC supply. Instant magnet. To demagnetize ...run through an alternating field.

adding a magnet to the outside of a filter would do nothing as the steel filter shell would stop the magnet from working inside the filter.

magnets cant work through metals.
