They are known as Lotus 7's, Caterham Super 7's or as a 'Lowcost' a home built car (based on the Lotus 7)

it's a Caterham 7:
"Caterham Cars is a manufacturer of specialist lightweight sports cars based in Caterham, Surrey, UK. Their current model, the Caterham 7 (or Seven), is a direct evolution of the Series 3 Lotus Seven designed by Colin Chapman and originally launched in 1973."

Caterham Cars - Wikipedia

a car i would love to own one day.
in the uk, you get a complete kit for their base model the "classic" for £14,995.($22,901.86 USD)

same model in the states, $29,580. w/o engine or transmission.

IIRC Caterham bought the rights to the 7 in the 70's from Lotus but the connection goes back to the 50's. I think Caterham built some of the original Lotus 7 cars.

A Locost with a L67 under the hood would be a screamer. Even stock those were under-rated by about 10 hp and 20 ft/lbs, based on before/after dynos. A few mods to wake it up, and with a built 4L60 behind it, that L67 would make that Locost scoot really nicely.

If one would have to fab up adapter plates/bellhousings/etc. anyway, why not a close ratio (C5 Z06) T56???

Err...no adapter is needed for a 3800/4L60E! It was a factory installation in 4th-generation F-bodies. That, or use a TH-200-4R...and can you get a clutch & flywheel to mate a T56 to a 3800? AFAIK, they all used automatic transmissions.

I would like to build a GKD Legend; a Seven style roadster that is designed to accept BMW E36 and E46 running gear- anything from an M42 four to and S54 from an E46 M3:

Yes, I forgot about that combo, and was thinking about the L67 version only with the auto tranasaxle (it must be my V-8 ONLY f body bias

).

Still, as great as the 4l60E may be, or can be made, I would still want to 'row my own' in a car like that.

I SERIOUSLY doubt that CATERHAM would want one with a slushbox in it, especially for how he uses his.

Nuttin' a little machine work couldn't fix. My BIL can make a brake caliper from a chunk of titanium, I'm betting he could easily make an over the counter flywheel and clutch work.

Yes indeed, the 4th gen F-body came with a 5-speed manual behind the 3800 in at least 1996. That's according to the always-right Wikipedia, so take it with an ocean full of salt.

Still, L67/L32 under the hood of a lightweight car with a row-your-own is drool-worthy!
