A few years ago a friend and I started to visit arcane, unusual, niche or just off the beaten path smaller museums, lets call it the "Places our Wives Wouldn't be Caught Dead At" tour. Lots of old cars, boats, airplanes, trucks, engines, trolleys, etc. Craftsmanship and innovation. The places all sort of smell the same and I think I saw black widows in the corner of a hangar. Great stuff!
"Hey Honey, look this is a picture of the H.L. Hunley."
"Where, that pipe looking thing in green water??"
"Yes!"
"Ohh...that's very nice Dear..."
Today was the Herreshoff Boat Museum in Bristol, RI. Herreshoff was a boat designer and builder of mostly sailing vessels including numerous Americas Cup winners. The museum includes a variety of their boats, sail and motor, steam and gasoline engines as well as a section on the Americas Cup. Small but very interesting museum if you are in the area. Bristol is also a fun town with lots to see and good food & drink.
Did I mention craftsmanship?
