i just got my grandmothers old washing machine motor running. its a briggs and straton KICKSTART engine from the 20's. its from her old washing machine back before electricity was common. i didnt even need to clean the carb or put a new sparkplug in it! just added gas and oil and kicked it a few times. just amazing that it runs and revs up and down nicely. it does not even smoke! the crankcase also looks pretty clean, no sludge here.
anyone care enough to want pictures of it?

so what kinda oil should i be using in this sucker? im thinking some motorcraft 5w20 might protect it nicely? hahaha.....

Back when I was a kid my buddy and I used a Maytag Washing machine motor on a home made go-cart, we didn't have a centrifical clutch so we used a 2x4 as a brake that drug the ground and lifted the drive wheel of the ground. Worked alright until one day the bolt that held the 2x4 on broke and my buddy coundn't stop it until it ran out of gas. We rigged a kill switch and a new clutch/brake assy. Back in the late fifties you could do things like that.

Preferably something with high detergency I'd say.....Delo 400, Delvac 1, you know the drill !!
