Hey guys. Quick question, my 5 year old laptop running Windows Vista had a few viruses on it that nothing would get rid of. So, I used the Reinstallation DVD my Dell came with, but now I can't connect to the internet at all. I'm getting a window saying "This computer does not have a network adapter installed and configured."

Even when I plug the router directly into my laptop, it won't connect. I have the red X over the screens at the bottom lower right where it shows your connectivity status. Any ideas? I've never had to reinstall the operation system on my computer so I'm a bit lost.

Oh, and when I plug in my mini portable stick drive in,it
says the disk has to be reformated. I'm not sure why that is the case. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Yup yup. Easiest way to do this would be to go to the dell site and put in the service tag for the machine. It will pull up the correct drivers for it. You will need to do this on another machine, and copy the drivers to a usb stick and install from there on the laptop.
I dont know why it would want to format your usb key? I assume it works in other machines as is, then? What format is it in?
Only thing I can think of, is it is in exFAT and you have a Pre-SP1 copy of Vista.

Check for a folder on the dvd or on the C drive for a folder that has drivers and software for your PC. Once you get internet working should be good to go with updating stuff.

I agree on the drivers. It's essentially telling you they are not installed.
"This computer does not have a network adapter installed and configured." The parts are in your computer, but the drivers are not.

If from what I have read is correct, the viruses are still on your hard drive. The DVD only reinstalls Windows Vista/XP/7 on the same physical partition without reformatting the drive. You may need to reformat the drive in order to eliminate the viruses if installing the drivers doesn't work. Best of luck!

Depends on the recovery media. A lot of them DO wipe the drive.
