Alright guys, I've searched and hounded the net. What I'm trying to do is find a Motorcraft oil filter for my '07 Accord 4cyl. I just don't like any of the off-bat options. The Purolators have the weird model bypass and the tube doesn't go all the way down. The Filtec Honda filter A01 doesn't have any end caps, so the pleats are glued back to back and there is no endcaps to ensure no dirty bypass. The wix is a nice filter, but the bypass eats up most the can, so I'm not left with a lot f media height and it's through the roof expensive at $8.23. I've been very happy with the price, availability and construction of Motorcraft Oil filters. I used to run the FL400S on my Toyotas and loved it for under $4. So, I've been looking at MC filters and only came up with:

FL821, FL822 & FL2007. That's the only 20 x 1.5's I found. Honda says to change the oil filter every OTHER oil change. And I have a oil life meter, so this filter will be in service easily 10k. I'm going to call Car quest tomorrow and see if they can get the Denso, they said CQ is a vendor. But at what price and hassle. So far the Denso or P1 is my best bet. I also wouldn't mind going oversided a bit while I'm at it. But with no charts, that's hard to do. But I'm seriously trying to get a stock sized Motorcraft and a oversized Motorcraft.

The Motorcraft FL810 interchanges with the old larger diameter, shorter height filter which Honda used for many years (same size as a Wix 51334). As long as your Accord doesn't have anything up close and personal next to the oil filter the FL810 should work fine.

In fact, Motorcraft lists the FL810 it as a fitment for your car in their applications guide:

"05-09 HONDA All Models 4-2157 2.2L DOHC"

The FL822, on the other hand, looks to be equivalent to the Wix 51356 smaller diameter filter your Honda came with.

Both Motorcraft numbers are, however, relatively rare as the FL810 hasn't been used on a Ford product built since the 1970s and the FL822 has never been used on a Ford.

wgtoys has it right.

There are four or five M20x1.5 filter sizes. Some have no ADBV. To my knowledge, there are really only two types for newer Hondas. They are

1. A small one that looks like it belongs on a motorcycle engine:
Fram PH7317 / Wix 51356 / Bosch 3323 / AC PF2057 / Motorcraft ?????? / Purolator L14610

2. A filter sized like the ones you see on most cars these days.
Fram PH6607 / Wix 51334 / Bosch 3312 / AC PF1127 / Motorcraft FL-810 / Purolator L14459
Look up a Honda S2000 to find these filters.

I wrote "??????" for the Motorcraft above because I don't understand the difference between the three filters you already know about.

I just put a Purolator-made Bosch 3312 on a Honda Civic yesterday. It's a very nice looking filter. Those "midsize" filters are usually the same size as my Buick's PF47 (76 mm diameter), but the Puro-Bosch is 80 mm wide.

Actually the Fram equivalent of the 14459 and 1334 is the PH3593A. The 6607 will fit (same thread), but it's noticeably smaller.

Purolator L/PL 14459 (PH/ST 3593a, STP 2808) will fit. This siz is what Honda speced in the 90s and maybe even before that. The Toyo Roki filter for the S2000 is this size I think. The MC equivalents (FL810)will probably just be Puro Premium Plus/Classic clones.

Thanks for the correction. I've been avoiding Fram for so many years that I don't really know their numbers at all. I was just looking at their listing for an S2000. Also, I'm not really a Honda guy (though we have one in the driveway).

didn't think to look up a different Honda like the S2K. Thanks.

well looks like I keep running into the same 2 #'s. L14610 & L14459. 14459 seems shorter & fatter.

Try an FL 813. It is listed on the box of a Pronto PO 3985 along with a PF 9, L14619, PH 3664, 51626 Big sucker, 3'' x 3.5''.

I think the gasket size is incorrect, which could lead to catastrophe.

The FL-813 gasket's ID is the same as the Honda filter gasket's OD.

Used to run PF 9, L10193, ST3950, etc. The PO 3985 has a 2 3/8'' x 2 13/16'' gasket and the L 10193 has a 2 7/16''x 2 7/8'' gasket. The adapter on my truck is a plate 2 9/16'' in diameter and flat except for the nipple in the center. It will mate with a wide range of gaskets. Check your adapter plate.

Since Wal*Mart dropped the St 3950, they now recommend the crummy little ST 3593A with a dome end bypass. So far, I haven't found a large, cheap filter with a thread end bypass.

Good advice. This filter definitely won't work on our D17A2. I think the adapter plate gasket area is too small, and more importantly, a portion of the engine casting juts out and only allows for a filter diameter of about 83 mm. The 80 mm Puro-Bosch just squeaks by.

Go to Sear's and see if you can find the L24458. It's a discontinued oversize that should fit (at least it fits on the Civic).

I have run the Pure One PL14459 and the Wix 51334 on my 03 S2000.Both are good.

I'm sorry, but this just cracks me up. Man, just go to your local Honda dealer and buy a Honda filter. No matter what myths you might have heard or perceived there is absolutely nothing wrong with a Honda. I use them on both of my Hondas and do 10K oil changes with absolutely no problems. Do you really think they would sell an inferior filter to destroy their engines?

The L14459, as stated previously, is what Honda spec'd in 90's on Accords and others. When we got a new 01 Civic, even the dealer was still using them for a while, before changing over to the smaller diameter 14610/7317. The older app is shorter, the diameter is greater, but the gasket diameter is still is the same as the 14610/7317. Where the gasket on the 14610 is flush with outer can seam, the gasket on the 14459 is offset toward the center of the filter. I believe it's still the same now.

Looking at the two, the older app looks to hold more oil.

True, nothing wrong with them. And construction wise, nothing particlarly special about them either. Just not worth what the Honda dealer charges for them relative to what's available outside the dealer for the same or less money. To each their own, but that's my take.
