I was trying to help a friend put new brakes on his wife's corolla, but he couldn't get the front rotors off. The caliper, pads, and caliper mounting bracket all removed without trouble, but the rotors were stuck.

On my wife's camry the rotors had threaded holes that the caliper bolts would thread into and pop the rotors loose, but the corolla's rotors did not have the threaded holes.

He tried beating it with a hammer to knock it loose, but no luck.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

was there a phillips screw on the front of the rotor between any of the studs? some mfrs use them to hold the rotors on during assembly. the Ford I just worked on had them...

if so, remove the phillips screw

You may have to heat it up. have to do that with a couple of Jeeps.
Also had to do it on a Honda once, that was after removing the screw holding it to the spindle.

I've never had a stuck set off rotors, but I take the wheels off and before i take of the calipers I apply the brakes a few times seems to make it easier to take the rotors off.

Then you may need a bigger hammer. I use a 5 lb. hammer and they don't give any trouble...

I don't know what year the corolla is, but I will find out tomorrow.

I don't have an air hammer, I've never even used one before. Would you just hammer on the rear of the rotor where the rear pad is?

I may try the youtube video method. What could keep it from working?

I have a 25oz framing hammer that is something like 8 and 0, but I would have gone larger if I ever needed to.

Now that I've seen that epic video, though, I feel like a brute.

I used a huge three jaw puller on my coworker's 03 vibe when it was ~5 years old. Would crank it down, tap with hammer, crank some more. Sticky rotors on that car. (Those cars?)

Many rotors have a couple of threaded holes in them that you can thread a bolt into and press the rotor off the hub. I keep a couple of grade 12.9 M8 metric bolts around just for this purpose.

I talked to the guy who owned the car last night. He said 30 minutes after he gave up, before I had posted on BITOG. He took the car to the dealership and had them do the job.

But thanks for all the responses, maybe this will help me or someone else next time.
