Help to determine oil choice??

Ok,I have a 2002 ford focus 2.0 spi motor 50,000 on it. I drive 15 miles daily to work(stop and go)and 35 miles on mondays to school(highway)motor is mechanically sound and has been very well maintained. Please help in my choosing of oil and change intervals? I love my car and want to keep it for a long time!

I thought you said it was new? Run an AutoRx treatment or two, use Amsoil 10w30 ATM to 10K then run a used oil analysis.

It is new to me! Sorry I should have been more specific!

For your engine nothing is better in my opinion than Mobil 1. You can safely do 6000 mile changes and can do extended changes with a used oil analysis to see how it holds up in your engine. Will keep your engine clean. May need auto-rx first depending on how it was treated in the past. One bottle auto-rx should do it. For filter use a Purolator,Wix,or Mobil 1.

How often you change the oil is more important than the brand you choose.

If you are on a budget then go Pennzoil, Havoline, Chevron Supreme or Castrol conventional oil and change it every 3-5k miles while using a Wix or Purolator Pure One filter.

It all depends on your circumstances. I was on another board and some 16 year old said his parents just bought him a 15 year old truck. He is short on money, when it came to oil and filter choice I told him to buy the cheapest oil on sale along with the cheapest oil filter. Grandad's favorite Quaker State is not worth the extra $1.50 a quart over the current sale oil.

10W-30 change it at 5k and do a used oil analysis would be my suggestion.

You say you want to keep your car for a long time.
You're in Michigan.

What oils were you using during those 50,000 mi?
Oil change intervals?
How clean the engine is?
If the motor looks to be in a fairly clean condition then you don't realy need to use AutoRX.
Any good synthetic at reasonable intervals will keep the motor clean. Your engine is not known to be a sludge monster.
I think.
If the absolute cleaniness is a priority then RedLine should be the top choise. It will keep your motor pristine.
BTW his engine is not the common Focus DOHC Zetec.
