Help me with my winter oil selection

I drive a 2007 GMC Sierra 4.8l and live in Rochester,NY.In my stash are Mobil 1,Castrol Edge w/ Syntec and Castrol GTX,all in 5w30.I'll probably only put on 5000mi between Oct and Apr.

Edge W/ Syntec gets my vote.

Any oil in your stash is good for 5k miles OCI. If you're in North/South Dakota then either M1 or Castrol Edge will be better for the cold Jan/Feb months.

Any of those will work fine. As HTSS said, use the synthetic for the winter and keep the GTX for next summer.

Mobil 1 5w30 would be my choice....Better yet....Mobil 1 0w30 or 0w20....for those severe Rochester winters.

You can use the 5w30 stuff.... when you change oil next spring.
