This will be my fourth year changing oil in RX300 with 55,000 miles. Used for short trips mostly. Changed yearly at 4,500 miles. I used Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 two changes with a little MMO and last change was Pennzoil Ultra 5w30. I think this engine was back-specked for 5w-20. It seems like a 0w30 instead of 5w30 oil would be better or 20 weight oil. It is the design that was prone to sludge. It does not use oil. I changed out PCV. The main problem is short trips and oil not getting up to temp.

Between PP and Ultra, I don't know what MMO could have helped, since those are some of the best cleaning oils around.
I wouldn't change anything, personally. If the 5w30 seems best use it.
I do agree with the annual change regardless of miles, due to the short trips and sludge tendency of that engine. Syn is really cheap insurance. Others may not agree but, hey, it's your ride and your peace of mind.

I've always used Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in mine, with no oil consumption. Usually change at around 4-5k mile intervals.
The past few months due to my less than a mile commute I've been running Quaker State Ultimate Durability 0W-20. I plan on changing it out in a few weeks once my commute goes back up to a longer drive. The 20 weight did fine, it hasn't caused any leaks or consumption issues. I too only using the 20 weight so that the oil get's up to temp quicker during my extremely short commute. But now that I won't be doing such extreme short trips, I'm going back to a 30 weight.

I added a pint of MMO first two oil changes and nothing to Ultra. It sounds sweet with Ultra. Actually, it is not my ride. I just get to change the oil...(a BITOGER's dream).
Before taking oil changes over it was going over a year on Pennzoil conventional or bulk Pennzoil the Lexus dealership used. Whoever tightened the filter was very strong.

I saw you were using 20 weight which got me thinking. This Lexus goes 1 to 4 miles most days.

Actually, AutoZone has Mobil 1 Extended Performance and Mobil 1 filter for a good price right now. I have been using Mobil 1 filters last three oil changes. I was considering that instead of a SOPUS product.
Id personally run M1 in a toyota product.
It has had Pennzoil its entire life and wouldn't the Mobil 1 affect the wax build up.
Actually, AutoZone has Mobil 1 Extended Performance and Mobil 1 filter for a good price right now. I have been using Mobil 1 filters last three oil changes. I was considering that instead of a SOPUS product.
Aside from a canadian TSB, I've yet to see any confirmed, official document stating that 5w-20 is OK in this engine. I think short-trips truly warrant a 6 month oil change, especially in a known sludge-monster like the 1MZ-FE. Any premium 5w30 synthetic and premium (or OE) filter should be adequate. If you're doing the oil change and want to do the best job possible, always replace the drain plug washer each time.

The 5w-20 was my confusion. The OCI was result of recommendation of other members here. Every 2,200 miles seems to be overkill, but I realize you like to maintain things in the best way. I have been changing washers every time. My problem was leaking gasket on oil filter. The location is somewhat of a pita. I did not want to over tighten the oil filter, but was a little lax on the torque. I have a OEM and Pure One filters I could use if not buying an oil deal with that Mobil 1 filter.
