Help decode Chevy 350 block numbers

If that engine is a low hp engine, the pistons are likely dished. And who knows what condition it is in.
Slapping parts on will help, but there are too many variables. Heck, the owner doesn't even know anything about that engine.
A crate engine a better solution. One and done. My guess is, you will be bucks ahead.

If it's an anemic 145hp, I don't want it. It would crawl at 145hp.
The likely hood that an engine that old has not been rebuilt or otherwise upgraded is very rare. A performance cam,hedders,4 bbl and intake will add 100 hp easily to that stock spec.

A truck should be geared lower than a car. A set.
of 3.73's behind a 350 with the above mentioned parts should be pretty sporty.

if it has upgrades like flat tops or better heads 300 hp is a good possibility

why don't you go drive it before condemning it due to lack of power?

Fortunately with modern tech, you can have 300hp AND good usable torque
No modern tech here. But with aftermarket heads, roller cam, TBI, moderate compression, yes 300 HP easy.
with usable torque at 1500 rpm.
But now we are spending thousands where it is likely not necessary on a Antique Truck.

That 1966 Truck likely came with a 283 or 327. There was no 350 in 1966
I don't think they put the new small displacement HD big block in the C30.
