Good Afternoon.

I've been searching and lurking and see the love given for the PGI filters.

I've been running a 90915-YZZD3 & Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 on my 2004 4runner 2uzfe w 280k. for as long as I can remember. This truck does 100+ highway miles a day. I did just have the Timing belt service done, and might go with Valvoline Restore and Protect for the next few changes.

I would like to try these PGI filters out. I think I have crossed YZZD3 to the CQ Premium 85516. or maybe the 94249. I am not sure. I'm a little lost in my rabbit hole. They list the 85348 is direct replacement but that is the shorter = YZZD1.
Can someone confirm this for me?

Thank you!!

I've went through this on my 2005 Tacoma. The specified short Toyota filter is the 90915-YZZD1. The longer Toyota filter is the 90915-YZZD3 as you mention.

These two filters cross over to the longer 90915-YZZD3:
- Purolator 20195
- Fram 3600

Now that I have switched over to the Carqueset Premium and MicroGard Select, these are the ones that cross over to the 90915-YZZD3.
- Carquest Premium 85516
- MicroGard Select MSL51516

I went through a bit of research a while back to find the "longer" versions of the CQP and MGS as shown above. If you want other PGI filter brands in the "long" version, then you'll have to do some more cross reference research knowing that a Purolator 20195 and a Fram 3600 are the longer versions that would cross over to the Toyota 90915-YZZD3.

Zee0Six. THANK YOU! That's exactly the help I needed. 🍻🤘
Glad it helped out. I'm going to change the oil and filter on my Tacoma this weekend and going to run a MicroGard Select MSL51516. Been running the older wire backed Ultra XG3600 in the past and have a few left, but want to try the MicroGard.

For the Microgard MSL51516, is the bypass valve PSI the same as the YZZD3? I believe it should be 14(?)

Someone asked the question on O'Reilly's website. The answer was 16 PSI. Should be fine, and besides the filter bypass valve setting depends on the dP vs flow curve, and the expected level of debris loading and holding capacity for each filter. You could look-up 10 different filter brands all specified for the same engine, and their bypass valve setting will vary somewhat ... they will not all be identical because of the filter flow and loading factors involved.

If it ever matters to you, I have cut and used both the YZZN1 and YZZD3 on my other former & current Toyota Yaris without issues. Their bypass spring rates are about the same and the matching aftermarkets have variations more or less. Bypass value isn't really an issue as long as you are changing them at proper intervals or live in a very cold region in respect to the running winter grade oil. If you do a search here there was some folk called Jim Allen that did a study on that subject with a test vehicle. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/differential-pressure-data-pure-1-motorcraft.207857/
