Help! Chainsaw chains rotted and got stuck in 1 week.

I plunge cut a new tree and put it in my gargage and placed all my saws in it. They all rotted the chains to the bars. What happend and why. Others have their saws like this with no issues. This is a piece of white oak.

Is your tree green wood and the others' have cured wood?

I respect that you can be vulnerable here amongst your friends.

Tannins in oak wood. How dry was the wood, it might have been to moist.

Moisture and sap. Let it dry out.

Tannins in the Oak are acidic. Your new tree is both wet and acidic. Others may have used different wood, or waited until it dried. Maple, for example, is much closer to neutral, as is Ash.

You can't do that with fresh wood.

Should have seasoned the log for at least 2 years first or used dead wood.

I guess some hooks on the wall are too simple. Is this just for show?

Even with the wood dry, i would not do that. The chains stay dry out in the open, oil stays on there. Takes up way less space to put them on the wall.

The attraction for me is this peice was as straight nu nature as a telephone pole. It was cut down and yes it is still green. I had no clue oak varieties were acidic what a bummer. Its not really for show but I guess it could be, I was tired of having saws laying all over the place.

The plunge cuts allow them to go in and out with ease.

So I need 2 years? That really sucks.
