Hi everyone;

I’ve been keeping very busy reading and learning a whole lot on oil. It’s a fascinating subject to explore and I’m very impress with the knowledge some of you possess.

I must, however, confess that I’m a complete neophyte, but I’m nonetheless motivated to learn as much as I can on the subject of oil because I’m very meticulous about maintenance. My first post is a simple question regarding Noco oil. My wife and I have just purchased a new Honda Civic (DX-G). I plan on using conventional oil and changing it every four months/ 4 000 kms along with a Honda OEM filter. A good friend of mine has been servicing my vehicles for the last 25 years. He owns and operates a great little business. He uses AC Delco bulk oil (5w30) in his shop, which is fine for my Sierra. He does not carry 5W20 in bulk, but he carries the Noco Premium Plus Oil in bottles.

I was wondering if any of you know anything about this oil. The Canadian Noco site makes reference to Exxon, Mobil and Esso products, so I’m wondering if Noco Oil is simply a repackaged product. I’m including the spec sheet for the experts to analyze and comment on. Thanks a bunch and I look forward to hearing what you have to say about this oil.

I don't know anything about this oil, but find it interesting how you registered 3 years ago and now is your first post.

I don't know anything about the oil either. I would think any oil packaged by exxon mobil would be a good oil. You could always buy the oil and filter somewhere else and have your friend service it if you do not want to mess with it. Shouldn't be too much money for peace of mind.

Does your Honda have the oil life monitor that a lot of the newer model Hondas have? If not, Honda recommends an OCI of 10,000 miles and a filter change every other oil change. Hondas are known for being easy on oil. Why are you changing oil and filter every 2500 miles (4000) kilometers)?

You've missed out on changing you own oil for 25 years? I'm sorry to hear that.

Welcome to the site. I like the car you purchased, I'm sure it will give you many years of trouble-free transportation! But in my honest opinion, I think you could run 5-6k km's easily if you wanted to. Good luck with your new ride! I never heard of Noco, unfortunately, so I can't offer my 2 cents on that.

"I’m a complete neophyte"

Likely much better than being an incomplete neophyte.

Hmmmmmmmmm...... "neo" as in "new"

Noun: a beginner or novice

Middle English, from Late Latin neophytus, from Greek neophutos : neo-, neo- + -phutos, planted (from phuein, to bring forth

Ahhhhh..... "phyte" planted!!!!!

Newly Planted!!!!!

You're a sprout!!!!!!

Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Howdy

Thanks for the reply guys. It may seem weird to some that it took me 3 years to post, but I guess I have to admit that I’m like the majority of people, I guess, because I’ve never really thought much about oil except for following a good, solid maintenance schedule and changing it regularly

. I actually stumbled upon this site because I was looking for detailing tips and I slowly started visiting and reading posts on UOAs and VOAs a few times a month. This interest may indeed turn into an obsession. I just need to start amassing my own private stash

! I find it interesting how oil can spark such heated discussions.

Anyway, I’m not the scientific type or that mechanically adept for that matter, so much of the lingo escapes me at times and I honestly find working on cars somewhat intimidating. It’s funny though because I love cars and I especially like to detail them. I guess detailing is about the only thing you can do when you don’t have a garage or a driveway.

I hope someone can comment on the oil’s specs. It seems like good oil for a regular guy like me, but I’m just a bit curious what the more knowledgeable people on here have to say about it. I realize Hondas are easy on oil and that I may be changing it out too early, but the car will see a lot of short trips during the week and the occasional longer drive on the weekends.

Cheers and thank you for your input!

Learning how to change oil is more important than learning about the oil itself! Crawl under that car and find out where the drain plug and oil filter is; when you do, report back!

Thanks Camu ! I don't understand what the majority of those numbers represent, so I thank-you for your comments and observations.
