Hi all!
When googling about some questions about oil for my vehicles, I stumbled upon this site. Oi! This is a huge one

Didn't even have to post my questions, just to search gave me the answers i needed for now

Anyway: Im a married guy with 2 kids, 2 motorcycles (Yamaha FZX 700, Honda Deauville), 1 car (Opel Vectra 2.2DTi auto), and a bunch of small gasoline-driven engines (gardening-tools mainly). Living half an hour drive west for Bergen, Norway , where we have a 50 years old wooden house and a beautiful view to a small water and mountains. Pretty cold here at the moment, approx freezing temps. Essential with high quality oil then

Have a nice weekend!

Ouch, thats a tricky one! Opel "kindeof" recommends / advertise with an flexible oil change. Well, this is on my car/engine, other engines have other intervals/service programs. This is supposed to be controlled by sensors, and how long/often you drive. SO, maximum is 2 years, 50.000KMs, or when service lamp is lit, whichever comes first.
After a quick talk with head foreman on my Opel garage, this is absolutely not a recommended interval. My garage recommends at least one oil change approx each 20.000. At least really. "If you care, do it twice as often". Pretty strong words from a "official" Opel representative :-)

BTW; oil quality is supposed to be the GM-approved longlife 5w30, who I belive is used on most Opel's these days.
Hope this helps

Its a nice place yes. Extremely expensive to live here, but it pays back with good social services. Alot of nice wild nature!

Just for comparison, many on this board are changing their oil every 4800-8000 kms. I have read that the average American does it around 8000 kms, even though the manufacturers here usually say it should be done around 12,000 kms. That is one advantage of higher prices--it has trained everyone in Norway to use their oil to its full life! My wife has been to Norway and says it is very beautiful and interesting.

Ouch! 4800-8000 kms! Thats often! I mean, where I live I belive we have very challenging conditions for motor oil. Often rainy weather-conditions, subzero temps in wintertime, and mainly small roads with alot of up'n'down hills (roughly one mile here "cost" almost double as a mile on a highway, my opinion).
With US eastcoast weather you must be 250% to have all time perfect oil, when you change this often!
In my earlier car I changed approx at 6000miles/10.000KMs, but then I used quite cheap syntetic 5w-50 or 5w-40 oil. In my Opel I dont dare to use non-branded cheap stuff, but so far I stay with GM OEM, since it is quite cheap compared to other brands. Ill pay approx $21/liter at Opel, and $30-35 for non-GM brands. Unfortunately they have stopped to import Purolator filters into Norway, so Ill have to find myself a good place for filters :-)

Hehe! Of course!

Norway is a bloody icy cold place on the wrong side of the earth, where beer is factory frozen, and we have icebears walking in the streets.
No, honestly

Seriously (or something mid between): Norway is a tiny country in northern Europe, Scandinavia. You know England/UnitedKingdom/GreatBritain/Scotland? When you look at the map, Norway is east/northeast of this, and to the north of Germany / Denmark. Sweden is east of us.
Only 4 million citizens (it could fit 10 times of people easily) in a very varied nature. I live at the coastline at complete west of Norway, closest to England, so we have north sea pretty close with its 6 degrees celsius salt seawater, so average temp here is 6 degrees celsius, with some snow/ice during wintertime, and bikiniweather a few weeks during summertime. Main income is oil (one of the worlds biggest contributors for oil and gas!), fish, shipping and technology. Very good social welfare system (maybe too good), ridiculous expensive to be here as tourist. Ridiculous expensive with cars/gasoline/diesel. In total: Its a fascinating country to visit, if you ever have a dream of travelling to Europe.. I recommend Google maps (see the link I put in in my first post) to get a hint :-)

fiske- Welcome. It's good to see other norse on here. I am third generation Norwegian. My grandfather and his two brothers were furriers in Seattle washington, which I am told is similar to oslo in some ways. I lived in seattle for most of my life but now reside in Phoenix Arizona.

If you ever visit seattle there is a great scandinavian rich town called ballard. Lots of sweeds and norskies! At any rate welcome. This site has alot to offer. If you love all things oil, this is the place to be!

You could have stopped right there. Everyone would have believed you anyway.

Seriously though, welcome to BITOG. We're all nuts here, but we try to get along with all kinds of people.

So, Im not the only one then

Seattle Washington; yes, Ill guess it is somewhat lookalike. Have never been in US, but my brother-in-law lived close to Washington for a few years. Oslo is 8-9 hours drive (550KMs/340miles) from where i live, and have a dryer climate and a few highways. Where I live its none highways, alot of low/midhigh mountains, demanding for the cars suspension.

One of my dreams is to have a trip to US. To see its contrasts between citylife and countryside, and everything who is "bigger" in US

I have never got a confirmation, but I belive my family is related to Fikse wheels
If you (or anyone else here!) is going to Norway, I am more than pleased to give hints for places to visit, and even more than welcome to visit us here. I have several European friends who occasionally visit us here, and to have visit from US would be lovely!

Have used a few hours here now, and found already several interesting discussions in oil. Some utter garbage, of course, but alot of good views! The high level here make it challenging for mee to participate, cool

Hehe... wheels were actually the first thing I thought of when I saw your screen name. They make some great looking rims, no doubt.

Not easily offended, and maybe I can contribute with how oil is reacting on cold weather; Since I was 16 years I have maintained all my vehicles myself, and oil has fascinated me especially since I had a Citroên CX, who has a hydraulic suspension!

Nowadays the gasoline and diesel is pretty cheap. We expect the gasoline to cost $2.7 in near future.

And pretty expensive

I would love to have some nice Fikse wheels, but I shouldnt complain, I have nice OEM Opel 17" wheels, nice fit for the car.

Just googled your area and zoomed in on the city of Fjell, looks like beautiful country. I see what you mean by Oslo being quite a ways away.

Best Wishes
