Hella 450 driving lamps

Today, there are LED choices galore that will markedly outperform those old Hella lights.

Just an FYI, 55W halogen bulbs are specified to 1500 lumens, + or - 10%. AND only about half of that is emitted from the light assembly.

There are reasonably priced LED driving lights with an order of magnitude more light. The below example has over 12,000 lumens output.

There are plenty of rectangular and square choices. One suggestion. Go with a product that uses CREE LED's and has a rated lumen output. Clearly there are Chinese products with multiple lower power LED's, for $19.

I'd pick something with 3500 lumens or more, PER light assembly. (sometimes they list total lumens per pair of lights)

Also, I suggest spot or driving beam, not flood. LED's with a spot beam still have a very wide and pleasant beam.

Just remember to shut them off when approaching traffic. The beam doesn't break halfway like a low-beam headlight, and you'll blind other drivers.

yes, i am going to rig a tube(like an old flashlight) for the switch so that i can have it right beside my leg and turn off and on quickly!

my drive is 99% rural with very few vehicles encountered but i am very careful, even with the cheapy walmart driving lights i have on there now.

thanks for your continued help.

had thought about that stig and i have done a set like that before, but on this one i have decided to go with a separate wiring and relay.

it is a good idea though for others who may be following the thread.
thanks for your input and continued help.

I love these things https://www.amazon.com/Nilight-Driving-M...ght+LED+POD+18w

Have 6, one died after it got submerged. Have 2 on the front of my Jeep and Focus, and one on the rear bumper of the Jeep for revere light. They are a spot, but have okay spread. I have them both aimed off the side of the road so I can see what's on the side of the road (deer, critters) when driving at night.

They are very bright. But less load on the alternator - that's the biggest advantage of LEDs. Unless you have to have a warmer color, I wouldn't even consider halogen.

I ordered those for my Jeep on the 6th. Amazon has delayed shipment so they should be here on Wednesday. Glad to hear some good reviews!

Look up the brand Nilight on amazon. All of their products are top notch.

I've ordered a bunch of their stuff and only been disappointed once. My fault, I ordered the wrong light for what I needed.

I killed one of their water resistant led lights. Apparently they don't like being submerged for more than 5 minutes

haha.

On a more serious note, I do like them
