Gas. Should you ever have a power outage, a small generator is your friend and you can still cook and bake without power.

Electric heat (resistance heaters, not heat pumps) is usually VERY expensive. When my mother replaced her water heater with tankless propane, her electric bill dropped by more than half in the winter!


Last months bill was $151. We are all electric so I don't pay the $240 a year hook up fee for the right to have gas. Plus I get all the benifits of this form of heat. Far more comfortable than forced air gas.

Another option some new construction is using is geothermal with a heat pump. It's an expensive initial outlay, but it can work well, especially if you don't have the option of municipal gas & live where it gets cold.
