Heart Surgery Scar Staring

Most all of us have scars, some quite obvious, like me.
I´m 71. I stopped worrying about scars that I have no control over decades ago.
I understand you may be self concious of visible scars, I really do.
I have two scard on my bald forehead where a surgeon ground two of the four hole in my skull. I was 3 days old.

My best advice; kick it around in your head, accept it, make it a friend not an enemy, get used to it.
I expect with time you will make peace with it.

We once fostered a very young puppy, the vet tech called him ¨bait dog¨. This poor little guy was sutured from his ear to his groin. The horrible violence this little guy had been subjected to... Boscoe is the name I gave him. He was sweet. loving and unbothered.

The second of three melanoma surgeries was on the back of my right hand. I asked the plastic surgeon, "Can you make an ugly scar so I can joke with people that it was from someone's front tooth during a bar room fight". The young woman plastic surgeon replied, "You're asking a plastic surgeon to leave a scar? Not a chance."

Interesting. A few years ago I had a melanoma removed from my right forearm. The surgeon hit a nerve during the surgery. The pain was INTENSE! I still can't press on that area without it feeling like I have a live electrical wire in my arm.

I just had surgery for a abdominal aortic aneurism four months ago. The scar starts just below my sternum, goes down to and around my naval and then about 3 inches below my naval. Looks like the surgeon had a slip or something at the naval (but they have to do it that way). All the staple scars make it look all the more ugly. I appreciate how something like that does impact self awareness. I now wear a short sleeve rash guard when at the pool. On the other hand, it was a necessary evil to keep me alive.

Have a stab wound at the hairline and two large knee scars from 1983 from a reconstruction surgery and the list goes on.

Shoulder, arms, elbows, ankle, back and so on bit the cleavage deal is the one that gets me lol

I (will) have two melanoma scars, one about four inches long on my chest from last year, and another as I sit here right now in my dermatologist office waiting to have 18 stitches removed from last week's surgery. I have a couple other scars from abdominal surgery from a decade ago.

The scars dont, and wont, make me self conscious in the least.

I've never been bothered by anyone else's scars, and I have never had anyone ask me what any of my scars were from. I'd gladly tell them if they ask. I'm self conscious about various aspects of my appearance, but my scars arent any of them.

Thats a battle scar OP, Be proud to have it and congrats on you victory! I am so sorry you must live with that if it causes a issue for you.

I have so much chest hair one would never see it, my x-wife did too...LOL,

You lead a dangerous life... And I thought a large scar from nearly chopping off my foot was a big deal.

You can always tattoo it. No resident or nurse will suture you like that (surgeons don't do sutures themselves most of the time).
