How is it possible that a car burns a quart of oil every 250 miles and does not foul plugs? Car in question has had the same spark plugs for 100,000 miles, maybe longer, runs as smooth as ever. Any theories???

bad exhaust guides, the oil is lighting off in the manifold not in the combustion chamber.

Saturn S-series are pretty good for running in this condition as well.

Thank you for your response. There is blue smoke,3-4 seconds at start up. None at all there after. Not even after sitting in traffic/complete stand still for five minutes or more only start up and never when cold, only hot start up. Should I suggest replacing his valve stem seals?

Standard procedure for the Saturn in my signature is to add a quart every other time the gas tank is filled. Still gets 35 MPG though.

Add my Charger to the list. The 3.5l is notorious for burning, mine is 1qt every 1k miles or so. Still experimenting with different oils but nothing seems to do the trick. When I'm out of warranty I'll try a w40 and see if that does the trick. Some engines just inherently burn oil and does not adversely damage the engine.

If there is super strong suction(really strong) coming from the PCV valve, am I to assume PCV does not need cleaning/replacing?

It's hard to determine the condition by the amount of suction. PCV valves are cheap. Just replace it to be on the safe side.

1qt every 1k miles is considered normal according to Chrysler standards. Toyota allows for 1qt every 600 miles if I'm not mistaken.
