HDEO Shell oil video check inspection.

Here is an internal inspection done by Shell on several diesel engines using various HDEO oils.

Surprizingly, (or unsurprizingly as the case may be), the premuim Chevron Delo 400 didn't do well, even when compared to the less espensive fleet grade Shell Rimula 15w40.

Note the use of the Puradyn ADDITIVE RELEASE filter system that was used. Quite a variable to acknowledge.
 
Of course the delo didn't do well on Shell's video, they sure don't want their top competition doing better than their products do they

Exactly... However, I was impressed with the synthetic oil. It confirmed my beliefs.
 
strange how with all the wear they found in the delo it has outperformed the rotelaT in every UOA i have seen.

i understand that product was not tested or was it?

Bingo, look at every UOA on this site pertaining to diesels and Chevron Delo 400 performs great, sometimes even outperforming some synthetics, most people don't realize that Chevron was the company that invented Hydrocracking and Isodewaxing, all the others just followed them...... Bottom line is I don't like Shell's marketing stategy, they are acting like Amsoil does, doing everything possible to discredit their competetion and "slam" them.... that is very professionally inmature IMO...... I personally have had 3 different dealers tell me NOT to use Rotella because of the excessive foaming of the oil, 3 different dealer mechanics that do not know each other said the same thing, I'll trust them and used oil analysis instead of a Shell or Amsoil's "propaganda" campaign......
 
Was the Delo tested the CI-4+ or the newer Delo 400 "LE" (low emissions) CJ-4???

I have read on another site about a fleet of bus engines failing from the use of the newer CJ-4 Delo 400 LE, and the outcome was that the oil was at fault...

Just a thought
 
many people on this board can give you little more than an objective opinion as it relate to your question 625. dyson analysis is capable and qualified, you would only need to do a few used oil analysis to get a baseline and establish some trends. anything less than that is pure conjecture and/or speculation!
 
I just noticed something from the Shell test that's interesting. Notice that they mentioned the change interval was 20,000 miles for every oil brand tested EXCEPT Delo 400... Who knows, that engine could've been running 50k miles OCIs.

Another thing, all the engines that were inspected were practically brand new. They were all in the 100-150k mile range. So they should all look relatively good on the inside even with [censored] oil. The fact that the engine with Delo showed excessive wear means that it must've been neglected.

Also, funny how on pages 23-26 they compared Rotella Synthetic side by side to Delo 400 w/o bypass filtration. Could've put the dino rotella next to the synthetic Rotella.

I think there are few oils out there that can match Delo 400 for wear numbers. Schaeffer's is about one of the only ones that I can think of. Shell probably knew that anyways and stacked the deck beforehand. It was a given that if Shell was running the tests, Delo would look bad. Delo doesn't need all the big advertising to sell their oil- it's performance speaks for itself.
 
Perhaps i'm nitpicking but I thought the piston crowns in the engine that had the Delo used in it was every bit as clean as that of the crowns in which Rotella synthetic was used in.
I'm thinking the varibles of different driver's right foot make it difficult to determine which oil protects from wear the best. One driver simply lugging an engine more can cause more bore wear in that truck. I just don't think the results are free from bias.
 
Do I understand this "test" correctly?
1. They took 5 trucks without inspections or analysis of current oils, consumption, maintenance, etc.
2. Put different oils in them
3. Selected one to not put a by-pass filter on (or already had the bypass on the other 4 for their entire life?)

Then proved what they set out to prove?
