hd does not stop working...

i can leave my comp on even after i finish using it and the hd is still "working".even if i come back after 15 minutes or so.How can i find out what's running? xp home. This is getting VERY annoying.

Download a program called Process Explorer. It will show every program running in the background.

Could be as benign as XP "indexing" folders, or could be as bad as a malicious program collecting all your passwords and personal data to be downloaded via Trojan to some online dirtbag the next time you log onto the net.

As mentioned- find out what processes are running in the background, run Spybot & AdAware for spyware detection, run an antivirus scan, etc. & hopefully you can figure out what your system is doing. Good luck...

this is weird.I ran that process explorer and i think that helped for some reason!

I used to have the same exact problem. I gave up and reinstalled XP.

Any update?
