Interesting, Im hearing two sides of the story.

Ive always been on the fence wrt hawks, and have never bought them because Ive been happy with the OE pad bite on most of my cars.

May still need to try them at some point...

Pads are rated cold and hot. [EE, EF, GG, whatever]
And like multigrade engine oils, these ratings are a RANGE, not an exact point.
But the cold rating is not really cold, it is a WARM [then hot] rating.
When dead cold, they can be all over the place - usually slicker.

I use and recommend Hawk pads. but I also use others.
At 1/2 cost , high quality, great friction ratings, lifetime warranty, low noise , dust, and easy availability are reasons why other pads can be great.
The fact is, most of us do not race with our street cars. If you really do, you will go through pads quickly, no matter whos you use!

they do bite but they also make a lot of dust and eat rotors. but everything is a trade off. i went from hawk HPS to HPS+ now PBR metalmaster i think they're called. less bite than hawk but less dust and probably kinder to the rotors

i could lock up the ABS on the front w/ HPS+

I've used Hawk pads on everything but my Silverado. I think the stock pads are amazing, so I didn't bother, but I did switch to Powerslot rotors. I have 50k on my factory pads and they still stop very well.

Hawk makes great pads though and I've used them on several vehicles. I never really noticed that much dust from them, but I typically used Powerslots in combination with Hawk pads. I don't know if that helped with the dust or not.

I can't say enough about brakes. Good brakes save you (and others). They can make up for bad decisions and poor reaction times, potentially saving your life. Choosing them should be based upon performance, ability, and reliability. Flush and bleed your brakes too.

GM's stock truck pads can go 100k miles on my 3500 Savana's! Some of the best out there.

All our trucks and cars (where we can) get NAPA adaptive one formula when they need them.
