Just spent the morning putting on hawk LTS pads and
rotors. Truck is a 04 siverado 1500 2wd with 56K on
orig. factory brakes. All 4 rotors were getting bad,
so i changed them out for o'reily's store brand.
Got the hawk pads off the internet for 84.00 a pair
shipped. Now on with road test.
Started out slow as it states on the bed in process,
8 stops from 35 to 5,then take it up to 45 and pound
on then. First thought, man these brakes SUCK,after
driving around for 1/2 hour, the brakes kept getting
better an better,to the point where they were biting
in hard, even the wife loves them.Bottom line; these
pads kick butt!

+1!

If I were going to the track (road course), I would swap them out for Hawk Blues, or one of the Carbotech racing compounds with their own dedicated rotors.

But for the street, they can't be beat!

I use and recommend HPS(street) and LTS(truck) pads all the time. Its an excellent brand.

I don't have any cold or wet issues.

They don't bite well during the first five stops. In the morning, I have to be very careful on the first five, sometimes ten stops. The performance is subpar when cold.

... which is really unsafe, as I'd imagine that it is similar after long stretches of interstate driving when no brake is applied. Early bite is as critical as anything else.

While euro pads dust like anything, I think Ill stick with them for initial superior bite and continuous stopping power.

Thanks!

So far I like ceramic pads on my BMW. I currently use raybestos QS. No dust-no squeak and good stopping distances. Been on car at least 50,000 miles on front.

I like Hawk street pads.
But they are not best when cold, and they are pretty dusty/filthy.
I believe their rating is E F - pretty good.
I am using Autozone ceramics in the ZX2 now, and like the low dust on the wheels. Rated F F. I don't race.

So in other words, the AZ pads have a higher coefficient of friction cold, and the same one as the hawk pads at temp. How are the hawks better?

Have you noticed any real difference in these pads? Their website shows no real difference other than "for trucks". Interested for my Ranger.

I put the HPS pads on my parents Y2K Taurus and they seem to work just fine for that. Much better than whatever was on there.

Difference, nope...not too many cars can have HPS and LTS PN's to be able to compare with the same vehicle.

And, no, I won't compare the HPS on a car to LTS on an SUV as they are two completely different vehicles.

Funny, mine always bite perfectly when cold. Actually, the only difference is you might need a tad more pedal pressure which helps me modulate the pedal or threshold brake better in the rain/snow..... ABS is a band aid for poor driving skills and so is complaining about wet or cold pad performance which is almost as bad as the limp wristed crybabies needing thinner gear oils 'cause they can't shift their manual, or even know how to. Now we have 'limp footed' drivers whining here too!

I've never taken a complaint with Hawk pads. And, I've installed a several hundred by now.

And, for you with your Autozone pads and think that friction coefficient is the 'only' measurement, take your atzn pads down Pikes Peak. Then, take the same vehicle down the mountain with some Hawks. I have and there is no comparison between generic and quality pads. Sorry.

When going from an average stock pad to the Hawk street pad, we should notice a nice improvement.
But like garlicbreadman said, others are available at 1/2 the price, more readily available, great stopping, less dust, and have a lifetime warranty.
