Does anyone know the cST of the old havoline synthetic like a big lots in 5w-20 grade? ive heard havoline runs on the thin side and im wondering if this holds true to the synthetic, also if it does run on the thin side what do you guys think about adding maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of a bottle of VSOT to thicken it up just a tad. one reason im leaning towards VSOT is because i heard the havo. syn add pack inst too stout. also ill be running 5k changes

I too bought enough 5W20 Havoline Synthetic at Big Lots for several oil changes in both our vehicles. Will be using it as is without any additives.

We are retired and use one vehicle for short trips around town most of the time and the other vehicle is driven about one or two times a week.

We take it on long trips.

Change the oil more often than 5k because of short trips and in the other vehicle change it every 6 months unless we take any real long trips with it because of warranty reasons.

Last time I checked, the 5w-20 SM Synthetic was 8.9 cSt @ 100C. The SM version also contains moly now.

Definitely. I don't know of any SM oil that won't go 5k miles easily.
