Why not?

Starting TBN has gone down. Look here at the Havoline 5w30 with a starting TBN of 8.97, and now it's at 7.4 according to the latest Havoline product data sheet with the new formulation.

Actually looking at the VOAs here, I wouldn't be calling this anything like a switch to magnesium. This is still a primarily calcium package, with a decrease, for whatever reason, in calcium, and still a fairly insignificant amount of magnesium, at least in comparison to what you'd find in a real magnesium oil, such as certain E7, E9 HDEOs.

In any event, retention is the real issue. Starting TBN is just that - starting.

Not too many people push a Conventional past 5-7K miles (even most bitogers). I don't think TBN is an issue here either.

Holy cow Food Lion?! Gosh they left Texas in a hurry back in the 1990's after that scandal with selling old meat. My how things change.
