Having a hard time clay barring

I am having trouble clay baring my car. It keeps picking up this white residue which i assume is the OLD polish/wax from last time it was detailed. I basically gave up after the hood....anyone have a similar experience with this? Is that why the clay kit came with a Wax remover?

Thats what I always do. Is the paint highly oxidized or in bad condition?

If you are picking up residue, this is why some use Dawn as a pre-wash to strip the paint first prior to claying.

There shouldn't be any polish or wax to "pick up". Both a polish and a wax should be buffed off with a towel after application.

Does the paint grab at the clay bar or is it hard to slide across the paint? My guess is that you have some serious over spray on your car. If that's the case, wet sanding is the route I would take (as a professional detailer) to remove the over spray. Of course, the paint would then need polished and sealed.

yeah it is hard to glide. the car has never been painted
this was not an issue when i clayed it the first time

Once the stuff is picked up and you go over with the clay one more time, is it smooth then?

It seem like you have lots of contaminants that got somehow baked on, I don't think it's wax, so use lots of lube and mold the caly in your hand frequently to get all that dirt inside it, possibly be ready that one clay bar may not be enough and get a fresh one.

is this a white single stage paint? Sounds like you have some oxidation you are grabbing with the clay

yeah the car is slightly oxidized.......but has been since i bought the car.
