Up a Will yet?
I just read about all the celebs who died without one.
I really don't have anybody to leave anything to but I'm not a fan of Uncle Sam...
It is a good idea to take care of it ASAP...

Of course. We have all of our end of life affairs taken care of, along with any contingencies. Who wouldn't other than a bunch of idiot celebrities?

Death is ignored by many. It won't happen to me attitudes.

There are 4 or 5 documents to really need to protect yourself and whom ever you want you stuff to go to after you "kick the bucket"
1. Living will 2. Power of attorney 3. Standard Will 4. Health care directive 5. Health care sereget. You can get an inexpensive software program "FOR YOUR STATE" and do it all then get them notarized and you will be legal. You wouldn't believe the red tape and cost to me and my brother because my dad didn't have a proper will. My dad and his brother owned a few ares deeded to them 75 years ago and the probate mess was unreal and took 2+ years and thousands of dollars before it was over. Ed

Here's my draft...

To whom it may concern,

It appears I have croaked. Who gives a rat's arse. Whomever wants an oil burning 2008 xB can have it, oh and it needs some expensive corroded abs wheel sensors. And whomever wants my debts can have them too. The rest take to goodwill thrift store.

See you in some supposed paradise I have no proof of but still beleive in because the alternative concept is too dreary to bear... Bye!

PS. To whomever is reading this will, your clock is ticking also, so go throw a load of towels in the washer and mow your lawn.

Will, living will, financial power of attorney etc. all done. POA filed with county. Encrypted flash drive with all necessary information given to daughter. Just got my letter from VA confirming eligibility for burial for wife and myself in National Cemetery. Not in any hurry though.

Wrote my first will at age 20 before going to Afghanistan. Almost 25 now and still update it bi-annually through VA services.
In this day and age, a will and a life insurance policy should be something everyone has.

Ours is with our solicitor.

A very distant relative in Europe died recently. Believe she was my grandfather's cousin. No will, no kids, so being intestate by law they had to work back to her grandparents, then down through the generations.

My share is about 1/412th. I may be able to take the family to dinner on that. Hopefully after the tax and exchange rates take their cut.

A will is a very good thing to have. Moreso with Kids.

Some people have a trust and a will.

Here in Florida all you need a 'Lady Bird Deed' to transfer property very simply and avoiding probate. Very cheap and saves lots of headaches if people try to fight over property.

Not yet. I keep thinking about it, but never when there is something I can do about it.

For a number of years part of the block was our kids. We didn't know who we would want to inherit them (if we both died). Things change, and siblings aren't the brats they used to be.

My personal advise is:

Use the Directed Beneficiary on your I.R.A. Account (assets go directly to Beneficiary).
Otherwise the IRA will go thru Probate and others may get a portion.

Saw engraved on an 'old' tombstone:
* Behold my Friend as you pass buy,
* There you are, as once was I,
* Here I am, as you shall be,
* Prepare for death, and follow me.

Its not a bad idea to have your funeral plans addressed also. We opted to prepay our simple plans (cardboard box to the crematory), but there are numerous other ways to ensure that your survivors don't have the added anxiety of last minute funeral system sharks.

IRA and bank accounts have a POD or TOD which makes things very easy. Just go to bank with certified copy of death certificate and bank will cut you a check.

I do know probate is unavoidable in some states. Here in Florida TOD, POD and Joint Tenant accounts are very strong. Also a will in Florida doesn't prevent probate...

Good advice. For the environmentally conscious, there is an effort to mainstream human composting if one is info contributing to the Earth's cycle of life.

if you have kids, or have acquired lots of junk through out your life and want some kind of family or friend to have it, and not sold at auction, you need a will.
We have a living will and a irrevocable trust.
medical POA, financial POA's
a simple will you can get at legalzoom.com things like my truck is sold for $XX and monies given to whoever.
if you have income property, you need a trust. and a lawyer.

Have had a detailed will for many years now. After seeing what "family" do after a death, the deceit and pillaging, I have mine all planned out.
