New to the forum......
I have a 2005 SAAB 9-5 Aero (4cyl Turbo). Per the manual, I should be running 0W-40 full synthetic and changing every 15k miles, but the dealer is advising changes at 7.5k - both seem long to me.
However, I'm putting on 800 miles a week commuting (mountain road & freeway) and want to be able to at least push the changes to 7.5k without worry. So I'm looking for a better oil filter to help do that. (I want to get at least 150k miles out of this car!)
I am looking at: http://www.cmfilters.com/spin-on.cfm
The CM has changeable media that is rated at 8 microns, flows 20gpm, and has no by-pass valve (is benefit that it filters all the time?). At $14.50, the replacement media alone costs a bit more than a mobil 1 or Amsoil filter, but it would be worth it to me if the CM would do a significantly better job keeping the oil clean. I can also get the CM in a 4-5/8" size, which is larger than the standard puny SAAB that is less than 3" tall.
Do you think the CM would be better at keeping the oil clean than an Amsoil or Mobil 1 spin on filter? Also, any problem with not having a by-pass valve?
Thanks for any comments you might have.....
I've also got some questions on types of synthetics to use, but I'll post in another topic.
Thanks,
