2009 Nissan Maxima (as featured in one of the latest editions of AutoWeek)? If so, any thoughts?

The Passat looks fairly stylish compared to previous Passat models. How the build quality holds up is a question mark. And that roofline gives my 6'3" height cause to worry about headroom.

They reduced the wheelbase on the Maxima by at least 1.5 inches. And the CVT is the only tranny available in 2009. And definitely shod with "UAWs," i.e, ugly A$$ wheels!

Does the Passat have the 3.6 liter engine? The 3.2 liter was hard on gas so the 3.6 is probably a bit worse on gas?

I would think that with carmakers scrambling to make new fuel efficient models (or bring over existing european versions) that audi, BMW, or VW would have an equivalent diesel sedan available in the next 1-2 years (TDI Jetta excluded). While the styling of the Passat CC is new I have a gut feeling that the gas crisis is going to make this car seem "old" in terms of efficiency very soon.

A TDI Passat CC would be intriguing if they ever make it although I worry about maintenance costs for that complex new diesel engine.

The Passat's in my latest issue of Car & Driver and I think it's gorgeous. They say it's what the Phaeton should've been.

The new Maxima, along with the new Infiniti FX have Nissan's new 'corporate nose' and it's *****. The only recent Maxima that's looked any good is the 2008 after they got rid of that hideous grille created in 2004. Now they've made it even worse. They're going to cause the the car's extinction if they're not careful. With the wheelbase shrink, it's even closer to the Altima so there's little point to having the car in their lineup now. And CVT only....that's fine for their only automatic, but why ditch the 6-speed MT? Nissan's headed in the wrong direction with their flagship.

The Passat CC looks like VW's answer to the Mercedes CLS500. Seems like all the German automakers are convinced the sexy "sedan-coupe" is the next big thing as Audi is developing one and wouldn't be surprised if BMW creates one, too.

Aston Martin and Porsche both have one in the works. I like the idea...The CLS is a nice looking car IMO. The Aston is typically svelte and gorgeous. The Porsche...well, normally I like their designs, but it gotta admit it's atrocious.

Yes! I like the new Passat CC. Haven't seen the new Maxima. Also, I like the new Opel Insignia, which IIRC should be the replacement for the Saturn Aura.

That new CC is a stunner. Now that it looks like they've OK'd the use of regular unleaded in the 2.0 turbo, it's a killer choice.
