Has anyone here ever written a children's book?

Have been kicking this around for a few months now. I have the book outlined and the illustrations storyboarded. Followed the "formula" (hero, problem, attempts to overcome, happy ending) and had my son do the illustrations. Working on final scripting and then to approach a publisher. Anyone here get through it all?

I found that you just have to stop everything and do it and complete it as it will never get done. My mother would do it at night often into the wee hours... best of luck with it...

Have thought about it and have a story idea that involves dogs of course. Would you self publish real books or do an e-book on Amazon? (or both)

My wife's eldest sister has done 3 books. It's a super pop and relatively easy thing to start (so millions try). She sold a few, nothing they talk about much anymore. She is a nice whimsical artist, she should have asked Pablo to write the story.

Pretty much all the females on my wife's side, my daughters and my dad (odd guy out) are/were excellent (I mean pretty darn good) artists. My daughter now regularly sells paintings and drawings and commissions for $ with towns for various posters and signs. My dad was a graphic artist for the USAF way way back in the 1950's (thing is NO computer or other easy graphics) - my brother pitched all his old pictures . I have zero (maybe negative) art points.

Do it for fun if you like.

Good luck. My wife spent mega time on this. Could never get them published. They were excellent. Don't waste your time trying to get them published. Sell apples on the corner before that.

Easy but 99% of new kids stuff sold says
SCHOLASTIC on it.

I have thought for many years of making a book based on my former wild imagination combined with my nightly nightmares I had starting around 5, my nightmares were all narratively inter-related over what feels like years.

The trouble is if I did it somewhat straight it might appeal to a certain kid but might belong more in the teen + or adult fantasy categories as it could easily slide into the pure terror/horror genres as the unknowing hero/savior whatever generally seemed to always fail against supernatural powers creeping up out of hell, never knowing how to use powers or that they even existed.

Sort of a greatest American hero but with supernatural abilities sent random places with no context

A kinda relative (son in law's informally adopted 1/2 Thai via a marriage of convenience, the white dude dad sadly died, sister) wrote a sci-fi book. Self published, not sure on sales lately. Cost her some money though.

Did she have author copies printed and try to do signings at indie book stores and such?

I am sure it’s a net negative money thing but if you’re trying to get your message out?

It is, but it is almost impossible to be successful with so many others doing it. A friend of mine wrote 7 books and self published. They are weird books that are time travel/romance novels. I think he makes about $20 a month from them
