Browsing for clutch parts for a Ranger, I came across LUK ,pronounced luke, They are a parts supplier to the new car industry. "1 out 4 cars comes off the line with a LUK clutch" says their website. The parent company is Shlaffler (sic) and they are mucho global . The prices are 30% cheaper than Sachs or Beck Arnley. This makes me suspect Chinese manufacture. There was only a mention of office stuff for Shanghai. The job is a PITA, I dont wanna be doing it again. OTOH, the truck is gonna be a spare vehicle , 4wd stuff getter seeing occasional use by me. Due to tin worm and general Fordishness , I only want to try for 5yrs /30k miles of use. I am not looking for perfection, the truck is a rat. So, has anybody used a LUK clutch? How it work how long has it lasted? TIA

I once used a LUK in a British sports car, it was quite heavy to use, but seemed well made. What Truck?

I can't comment if they are still the same as the one I got 6 or 7 years ago from Pep Boys. The factory one came out at 69K miles when I had the slave went out, and it was in great shape, but I opted to thro a new one in while everything was apart.

I have used and installed many of these clutch's over the years. Never had a problem with them and would recommend them to use. What year ranger, I just did one a few weeks back. The truck had release issues prior to me taking it apart. Had to replace the, flywheel, master, slave and rusted hydraulic line that refused to come out.

Right now I am just in the planning stages of the job. It is a 94 4x4 with a 4.0 Super cab. I hope I can just throw a disc in there and button it up. Yah, right. Still. I think I know what make of parts I'm gonna buy. Thanks, every one.

We install a lot of LUK clutches. They have a few different levels of holding ability but we usually run stage 2 or 3 and they can be a bit harsh in the leg. They are very nice clutches though and you won't be sorry you installed it. Don't just through a clutch disc in it. Resurface the pressure plate and new throwout bearing

LuK is an OEM to Toyota and GM, surely among others. Are their aftermarket offerings equal to their OE offerings? Probably. A Toyota MDT Tech I know says LuK's OE and aftermarket Toyota products are close to equal as far as he can see.

I don't like the LUK clutch in my Cruze (build date August 2011), but that's due to poor design, not something mechanically wrong with the clutch itself. Darned thing doesn't release properly on occasion, even with my foot mashing the clutch pedal to the floorboard. It's a design error with too-tight tolerances, not a poorly-made part. Fortunately it's re-designed for the November-built Cruze manuals. Check out some Ranger forums to see what those folks are running for replacement clutches. Likely about a hundred or so folks have posted about all kinds of clutches for the Ranger around the Internet.
