GM is recalling to protect people from themselves, not the car is my understanding. The problem is incompetent sloppy oil fills getting on the exhaust manifold heat shield.

Toyota stubbornly refused recalls in a similar situation - the unintended acceleration problem they claimed was not their problem, operator error. Until that problem was nationally televised and a threat of govt action they were barely acknowledging and continually denying any accountability for repair. To this day they still blame the owners.

Faulting a manufacturer for putting out a recall is the very reason that makes them try to cover up. Good for you, GM.

that is true leaky seals. there was a video on youtube about a lawyer who worked for toyota and he had a breakdown trying to cover up toyotas ridiculousness. apparently they are pretty corrupt

You have a problem with authority. You think the things you have gotten scolded over are "dumb". Why is it that you think the mods should apply your version of what should and shouldn't be allowed rather than theirs? Who said you get to decide what's "dumb" and what isn't? The real world doesn't work that way. You have to live by other people's policies in many areas of life.

Personally, I really enjoy the fact that the mods keep a somewhat tight lid on the things around here. Because I could easily see this site turn into one where namecalling and political rants were the norm, if not for the action of the mods.

can you quit posting from your phone the poop blobs of text with no punctuation are hard to read.

IIRC, I've only received one nasty-gram and another watch-it-type email. I have no problem with the whole Helen's-house-Helen's-rules philosophy, but the nasty-gram I received was for a minor curse word that was caught by the swear filter. What??? It was annoying, but who cares? I'm a mod on another forum and sometimes I make mistakes. It's not worth getting upset over.

While this forum is a lot stricter than most I frequent, it doesn't bother me at all. I come here for: 90% entertainment in the form of some of the advice given here; and 10% to learn something from the few who know what they're talking about. I don't come here for the blond or Chevy-vs-Ford jokes.

Posted from my phone. How hard was this to read? :P

Despite the rules, Helen's rules or othewise, this is one of only a few places that one can come to read, learn, and think. I'd rather have to worry about this board coming to a place where arguments and hard feelings are allowed to go on and on, with little or no controls over who expresses harsh, mean or hateful comments to others. We don't often see that happen here because the mods step-in quick and bring things to an abrupt halt. I've had a few comments rubbed out even though I didn't think they were out of line. Regardless of what I thought I said and meant, some one thought otherwise...so that was OK with me because I really didn't want to be interpreted wrongly, so maybe they read it and called it their way. So be it. I care about the democratic processes, but not so much on here. I'd rather live with the mods interpretation of the rules than "our" democratically determined ones. One man's meat is another man's poison. All in all, the powers that be on here do a pretty good job of things.

a lot of you aren't understanding what im talking about and for some reason gingerbread makes it hard to correct or anything the cursor wont do what i want so yes it is difficult to use.

i dont mind the tight leashes. what i mind is that plenty of people make a joke and nothing is said but if i do its a big issue and the mods email me and say stuff like "if you post off topic again youll regret it" that is ridiculous. another things if the joke is just that and its meaningless and it fits the current discussion it isnt off topic and for those people who cannot understand what im saying im not talking knock knock jokes im talking like a sentence that is just joking but is on topic and then follow up with what i really think

Of course then something has to be done and the offender has to sit in the corner for a couple of days while the snitch secretly gloats about his good deed for the day.
It's the same in grade school, the work place or anywhere else. Get used to it.

I think you're on to something here.

99.8% of members here are mature enough to be reasonable when joking around in posts. I agree that the reactions by the mods are sometimes very arbitrary depending on what day it is.

Quite awhile ago, when I got a time-out, I had this same issue and I privately emailed one the mods about it. In my email, I stated that the money donors can say basically anything they want and not get a reprimand, but the non-donors got held to a pretty tight leash. The mod openly stated that I was correct. The mod then said that it used to cost about $100 a month to operate this site, but it had then gone up to over $1500 and month and that was why the donors got special favors. In other words, it's the golden rule. He who has the gold can make the rules.
As stated by a few others, it's the owner's rules and she can do whatever she wants. Get used to it.

I understand that you are just talking about jokes, which potentially can cause problems also. But I remember when talk about religion and politics was allowed at this website. I am glad that was shut down. Some of the most terrible hatred I have ever read in my life was displayed in posts about religion and politics-I would say especially religion. I was stunned by some of the dark hatred that was displayed here. Now I am a religious guy, but I will keep my religion and my politics to myself. And I hope that discussion about religious subjects and politics is never again allowed at this website.

The joking could get out of hand quickly also. Some of the people who post here in all honesty are immature.

You're sitting in a laboratory reading this? Or did you spit on your laptop computer?

Now that's a harmless joke.

I wasnt involved or engaged in the topic that is being discussed here, actually I dont know what it is/was. But I would submit that harmless jokes that come across as polarizing might get different treatment because of the firestorm that they can inadvertently create...

But I dont know the whole context, and to some extent dont want to/dont want to become engaged in whatever the current fight is. That's just my 2c.
