Gunk Valve Medic

Hi all,

I just poured this "Valve Medic" stuff into my mum's '97 v6 3.1 Grand Am with 209,000km or~192,000 miles (yes with a piston slap though not tooo bad)and I have noticed a quieter running engine even when cold ( recentely the temps. here are anbout -4C or 28F) I had put Valvoline MaxLife in it a month before and so far the slappin' isn't so bad especially after adding the Gunk's Valve Medic, the engine runs noticeable quieter. Would it be wise to add another bottle of this stuff for the last 500km before oil change or are these chemicals too harsh on the seals? Should I expect some cleaninhg action as well i.e. will it a least remove some of the varnish or sludge?? Has anyone had any experience with inexpensive remedies like the Gunk's Valve Medic? or Wynn's Engine Tune up??

Gunk is frigging great stuff. Gunk folks are experts in making chemicals for seals. People will usually tell you, as a very general piece of advice, to avoid adding more than the recommended dosage (1 container by default) unless it's still broke and you absolutely feel you must.

I'm sorry and it probably doesn't make a difference, but isn't 209,000KM more like 133k miles not 193k?

This product is an exotic and highly sophisticated elixer of....90% diesel fuel. Basically a similar formulation to Gunk's 5 Minute Motor Flush, only in a smaller bottle.

It should be safe enough when used as directed and will not harm seals, but should only be a temporary fix to a specific problem, such as sticky lifters, sludge/varnish, etc. Since off-the-shelf additives can sometimes clash (for lack of a better word) with an oil's additive package, I wouldn't use it continuously -- leave the oil formulation to Valvoline, Pennzoil, etc.
