I'm looking for a solid gun safe with real protection against theft and fire. I'm convinced Fort Knox, Browning, Liberty ect are not very good and not what they are hyped up to be. Most of these safes use 10 or 12 guage steel in their bodys which a fire axe will cut through. Also UL does not test safes per say but the fire proofing material in the safe and not the acctuall safe. So safe fire ratings are VERY misleading!!!!
Sturdy Safe seems to be the real deal using 7 guage steel and cermac wool for fire proofing which is far better then fire board which Ft. Knox, Browning, Liberty use.
Please let me know if I'm on the right path and here is a link to Sturdy Safe:

And a link to a safe buyers guide:

What do you think?

i take back the concrete,
I remember looking at a sample wedge of the safe when i bought it and it looked and felt like concrete. i think it's their proprietary insulation. in any case, i look at safes whenever i see them in stores and they are often a joke compared to mine.

Have had a Fort Knox for 15+ years. Thankfully it's never been through a fire. Did have a home theft 2 years ago. Theives made off with 13 guns that had "outgrown" the safe, wife's laptop, and sons Atari, plus other miscelaneous items. Fort Knox evidently looked too tough, and is certainly too heavy for them, as it was left untouched. No matter what you buy, if someone wants in bad enough and are smart enough, you're gonna loose. Only hope is that what ever you have is slightly more professional than the people wanting in.

Did you get your stuff back? That is a heart breaker!

I live near the Fort Knox plant and have seen a few safes returned to them to be repaired due to trying to get cut open.

Not a single one was breeched. Torn up, yes.. But every one has protected the contents. One had the lock knocked off then they decided to use a torch to cut open the door but that did not work. So they went to the side and either ran out of time or ??

If they want it, they will get it, but 99% of the time, they will pass and get going somewhere else.

I think most of the personal safes are made in Utah (Browning, Pro steel, Fort Knox and Liberty) (3 of the four are within 30 miles of each other) and I've been to every factory.

All good products!

I've got a Fort Knox (my 3rd one) and my other family members have other brands.

Take care, Bill

NO

Unless you have some sort of pre agreement rider standard homeowners will limit firearms to $1,000. Mine did allow other firearms value to count toward deductible so they paid for computer outright and other misc. items. Cops did charge perps after we got their names. All pennieless druggies so firearms long gone ,untraceable no money for fines, recompense, or lawers so basically turned loose to keep state from having to feed them. Cannot state anything about my thoughts or I might very well end up in jail. Also feel none too kindly toward NRA. As a life member with firearms loss insurance, they won't pay off because I don't have a list of serial numbers.

No matter what type of safe and insurance you have, the voice of experience is telling you,,,, Take Pictures, List Serial Numbers, and Keep This Information at a Different Location!

I'm sure those guns have been used only in a legal manner since.

How you gonna pop a cap in the muther-effer if the gun's in a SAFE?

I mean seriously, doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Even after above mentioned loss,,could probably still lay hands on cold steel in a VERY short time. Just how many loaded, ready to use weapons do you keep lying about? Who safeguards them when you run to the parts store or Walmart, or do you load them in the trunk for every trip?

I keep my carry gun on me or near by at all times. The other guns are locked in the safe to prevent theft.
