The one I am thinking of was made in the early 80's or late 70's and was kinda right after the civil war, when the devil made the soldier a deal. Gave him a bearskin cloak and all the money he would ever need. He wasnt allowed to shave for like few decades. Soldier won the bet and got married in the end of the movie.
