Car is a 96 Intrepid, 3.5L. I bought the car w/ 71K, and had run Conklin Convoy since. Though the engine was very clean, I ran an ARX cycle at 120K; clean and rinse w/ Chevron Supreme. After rinse, I put in some GTX HM I got because of a rebate. I wanted to see if the HM would stop some minor seepage.

We left on vacation right after I put in the GTX HM. We put on 3100 miles. The level stayed right on the full mark, and was full at 2000 miles. At 2500, the level was down 1/4 qt. At 3100, it was down 1/2 qt. The seepage does seem to have stopped.

Does anyone have an opinion as to why the level stayed full the first 2k, and then dropped 1/2 qt in the last 1k?

Also, gas mileage was great! The car usually gets 26-27 with strictly highway miles, and that's here in SD where it's flat! On our trip, we went through some hills, plus had some city driving mixed in, and averaged 26.7 for the whole trip. We got over 30 on a couple tankfuls of interstate driving. This car has never given me this kind of mileage. Would you attribute this to the oil, or the ARX cycle?

FWIW, the car seems to run no different after the ARX or w/ the different oil.

TIA for any opinions. BTW, I'm going back to Convoy (group II/IV blend) for the SD winter.

Chevron Supreme with ARX and GTM HM are both very good oils. Your consumption is not bad, possibly a mechanical leak via OP sensor or something. Someone who knows these cars surely will help you out.

Mike: Convoy is a very good oil, group II/IV blend. The mfr advises up to 15k oci, but I always hit the 1 year mark first with this car.

Auto Union: Like I said, the seepage seems to have stopped. My point is that it seems to have burned this 1/2 quart, and I'm curious why it burned no oil until the 2k mark.

Thanks for the replies.
