I've been told that Shell Rotella 5W40 Syn is a Group III but Amsoil Series 3000 5W30 diesel is a Group IV. What's the difference?

For a lawnmower that sees the necessary oil changes... no difference in wear rates. The 5W-40 is what I use here in Michigan. I think it's the best lawnmower oil made that works for passenger vehicles too. Very high zinc numbers ... just what your lawnmower requires for best service. If purchased in the large WalMart jug, it's half the cost of Amsoil.

It's not available in Walmart in Canada. What is the price of a 4 quart jug in the US? I can easily run across the NY border if it's is worth while.

Rotella is marketed under a different name in Canada. Rimolla?, check with a Shell distributor.
Walmart should sell HD truck oil in Canada as well as in the US, I would think. Look around, the truck oil is sometimes on a different shelf than the auto oil.

Actually, we have Rotella here but not at Walmart. A similar store sells Rotella dino but not synthetic. I can order it in from a Shell distributor but I would think that a mass marketer would be less expensive.
