CATO Institute study of welfare spending and efficacy .

Did you read this before you posted it?

It says precisely zero about the demographics of who uses these programs. It talks about dollars spent and speculates about the effectiveness.

Plug your own numbers. This is how the program works. It demonstrates a broken welfare system. I will provide more information later.

Senario: Couple has nice home, money in the bank. 3 young children living in WV. Hosehold income is 50K.

This couple will qualify for enough food to fill 3/4 of their needs. Is this a waste of Government money?
If you say "no" I truly know where you are coming from. And your standards of need don't fit mine.

Remember...one program only.
I personally know someone who fit this example.

What does this have to do with the information I presented that tells you that 91% of welfare recipients in the United States are elderly, disabled, or working?

How does this refute the information I provided in any way?

You don't approve of WIC, got it. What does that have to do with anything?

In the U.S. we have very very little accountability when it comes to welfare. We have an ENTIRE culture raised on it and expecting it.

You can play the "I'm a wonderful person who believes in helping others" routine all you want. But....I am of the mindset that nobody has a right to take money from me and hand it out to others. That is my decision to make since I am the one who earned it...nobody else.

Man, you're REALLY going to hate yourself when you start drawing a Social Security check.

You can play the "I'm going to put stuff in quotes that suggest I know anything about what another person thinks about himself" game all you want, but I'm of the mindset that in a democracy we can all vote to incorporate state run "charity" programs. If you don't like living in a functioning society where we pool our money and pay for things that benefit others, there are many available options for you may choose from.

Who are these people? Where do they live? Which programs provide them with the assistance that allows them to refuse to work? How much money are they drawing? How many of them are there?

I paid into SS for 45 years. I received my first check in October and my online banking showed a deposit yesterday....yeah, I so hate myself. To all who benefitted from my 45 years of paying into SS, you're welcome, to all who are contributing now to my SS, Thank you. I'm going to the basement and build a birdhouse....LOL!

It is an example of wasted tax dollars. Clearly you don't get out in the real world and see its a common occurence in the U.S. Hint it it is more "real world" evidence that your 10% may be too low.

Hmmm. strange..It doesn't appear you actually get out in the "real " world.

OK..another "real world" I doubt you know this. Most Union construction/craft people take at least 12 weeks unemployment vacation. They ask to get layed off and its really expected. The figure is probably much larger but I am being conservatine.

You see that on CL before they get flagged.

Pretty simple...the euro will dive even faster compared to the USD and since the euro holds the most percentages in cross currency trading when it comes to the USD, that will make the greenback stronger on all fronts.

With a strong dollar the US exports will go down the drain...why do you think Yellen keeps pushing the rate hike?
Not sure a weak dollar is a good thing either.

I paid in to Social Security, I'll have no problem taking some back. A good socialist would favor a means test for SSI.

I'm not going to read this thread.

My opinion. Make Germany pay. The SOBs started 2 wars and almost ended the world. How can you put a price on that.

I visited once and was relieved to leave the country. The autobahn was fun. We need to bring something like that here.

Several million? That's impressive.

On a daily basis how many food stamp purchases do you process versus transactions from people drawing money from Social Security, unemployment, Medicare/Medicaid, college grants, etc?

You're presenting yourself as a person who takes care to notice such things, so surely you have some numbers to offer.

Oh no, I get the "real world." What you don't get is that the "real world" is bigger than what you can see right in front of you.

Where'd you pull millions from? I can take a guess.

I have no issues with folks on assistance. What I don't approve of is people who abuse the system. Pop, gum, candy and ice are all covered under EBT cards. How can any level headed person defend this? Most of America seems to think they are "entitled" to buy whatever they want so I guess it makes sense..

Having an EBT card shouldn't mean a person has $xxx.xx sitting around for other things such as a smart phone, lotto tickets, tobacco and alcohol, but I am seeing it all the time. I am going to make a guess that at least 50% of EBT users that I see abuse the privilege. Call me old fashioned, but I feel if you can't afford something, you shouldn't buy it.

Don't forget all the incentives for single mothers too. You can get more money per month if you have a child (or 2.. Or 3) and claim yourself as a single mom. The "bf" can still live there and eat for free though. A young couple also get more $$$ by claiming themselves as independent with an independent roommate. But of course the funds get combined..

Wow....stunningly without merit or substantive reasoning.

I take it you work in a supermarket ?
