After spending the weekend at the 4 wide in Las Vegas it was great to end up with 3 out of 4 Pro Stock motorcycles ( Ryan Ohler, Cory Reed, and Steve Johnson) with Flyin Ryan winning, and 3 out of 4 Pro Stock Cars (Erica Enders, Mason McGaha, and Aaron Stanfield) with Erica bringing home the win. It makes all of the hard work worth it!

As a side note the path to victory for Flying Ryan was not smooth. In Q1 Ryan had brake issues and after running 4tf quick he ended up flying into the sand. Round 1 the oil pump belt broke so he transitioned to round 2 after making his pass with 0 oil pressure. After an engine change to be safe he was able to transition through round 2 to win in the final round. From the beach to the podium.

Can you let us know the condition of the bearings after the zero oil pressure run?

With respect to the bearings on the bike, I would expect them to be fine. They are roller bearings so oil mist alone should be enough to save them.

With the pro stock car bearings they are reusing bearings for the first time. They look great and it does not make sense to put a new bearing in if you have a good working history with the one in place. Coatings can be a variable and it’s good to stick with the successful parts. These had Dyno time, probably around 5 pulls and 20 passes down the track.

First off, congratulations!! That is a huge accomplishment.

Are the skirts of those pistons coated? It looks like the Grafal coating Mahle uses on their PowerPak pistons.

Hopefully you all are still sponsoring Daddy Dave... And hopefully he can win a few no prep events.

I know on the show on Monday evenings I have seen Dave, Joe aka Dominator and I believe Chuck who drives the Deathtrap all have shirts with HPL on them.

Maybe Ryan Martin too...

Yes we are with all those guys as well as Mike Murillo, Jeff Lutz, Kayla, Doc (although he is down for a while) Boosted, Scott Taylor, mistress, and Eric Bain. Ryan Martin is not on our program. Dave has some good stuff in the works. He has also been very good to us.

Yeah Daddy Dave seems like a really, really good/cool guy... Legit guy. I think Dave could make a Yugo fast... He has the most pure talent driving wise out if the guys from the 405.

Doc's crash was quite severe. . Main thing is he is still here. And seemingly neurologically functioning rather well.

Scott Taylor also seems really like a good, good guy.

Amazing how just 1/10th of a second means so much to performance. And if your car is off by 3 tenths you are way off and out to lunch. Extremely Hard to make that much time up.

What viscosity oils are those guys like Dave running ?

The oils for all of the street outlaws are a non detergent straight 50, 60 or 70. Most are on straight 50. No detergent but lots of molybdenum and ZDDP.
The picture below is after a night of filming. Given time the crud can be drained until you see fresh oil and keep going. It is obviously important to keep the crud drained. It becomes a different step in normal maintaining the car. The alcohol grabs onto water and the resulting increased density allows it to sink. If it were alcohol alone the fuel would be on top.

They are definitely coated although I am not sure who is doing the coatings
Thank you for the answer. I know there are trade secrets so you can't say certain things. Do they use the Clevite coated bearings? Or are they from a different company. Someone gave me the terrible/great idea to buy a NASCAR Cup roller road race chassis in a few months so I am looking at engine options 😬

There are numerous formulas, but most piston skirt coatings are based around molybdenum disulfide.

Very cool...

Lots of molybdenum certainly makes sense. 50 straight ND makes sense for sure.

Got to be a doggone good oil in that trans of his too...

I know Big Chief had a oil filter setup that was clear so he could see what was happening within the motor. I wonder if Dave has a similar setup or goes old school and pulls filters and cuts them open to inspect?

Erica is one of the all time best drag race drivers.

Our transmission fluids for the street outlaws are made from raw components rather than an additive package. A turbo car will pick up 50 degrees a second on the trans brake. Heat is the enemy. At 400 plus degrees in the fluid all kinds of bad things happen. Here is a good quote from Mike Murillo after a very important pass a couple years ago.

It was that pass that won the final round, the event, and the championship with a large resulting pile of money.
