Hey guys,

New to the site, I bought some Schaffers #274 Grade 2. I'm going to be using it on the suspension on my truck, and I was wondering if I need to somehow clean out the grease from my linkage (tierods and balljoints) before I put this in.

If I can, I will push out all the old grease with the new, but do I need to be concerned if I cannot flush the old grease out?

Also, the truck I drive at work has a zerk on the steering shaft in the cab, it looks like it's a plastic slip-shaft. Could I give it a shot or two with this grease?

Thanks!

Grease contamination is usually when you have 2 completely different types of grease. In cars, it's usually some form of lithium grease, so "contamination" is unlikely.

Most good car parts last a long time using whatever grease is pumped in by any oil change place. I often deal with cars where the cheapest price determines what the car gets during an oil change.

Right, but if I remember correctly, Schaffers 274 is a moly/aluminum complex grease, not lithium.

#274 is an aluminum complex base grease and is compatible with lithium and lithium complex base greases. Squirt away.

The moly is an added lubricant, not part of the base nor part of the compatibility story. There are many lithium base greases that also contain moly.
