I wanted to elaborate on this briefly.
I use the Lucas where lubed-for-life type of greases work well. The Lucas Xtra is fantastic stuff where you have any kind of roller bearings, needle bearings, ball bearings. Think rolling contact.
But for sliding shafts and splines and bushings and such, the Valvoline Synthetic is what I use. It's loaded with EP additives and has more of a paste texture than a grease. The valvoline is not very tacky at all. So if you need a super sticky grease, it's not a good choice.
But the Valvoline seems not to need to be sticky to do a phenomenal job where sliding contact (vs rolling contact) is the main lubrication challenge. It also does amazing for some off-label uses. For example, slathering a bunch on the action spring of my rifle all but eliminated the "sproing" that's common in this particular kind of rifle. It's quiet and SMOOTH now.
The valvoline is also my favorite general purpose lube if I can use it somewhere nasty MOs2 stains aren't a problem. This is NOT the stuff to use on your vehicle door hinges or such. For those, use Superlube or something "Clean".
