Is he that nieve that he feels the public and everyone else should know the whereabouts of our classified space vehicles, its people like him, that think the whole world is full of happy people and all those stories about North Korea, China and Soviet Union are made up make believe, why would anybody do things like that to other people. I think the press should be blacked out in Iraq and Afghanistan and especially people like him, so the military can conduct operations without restraint upon our enemies, without political or ethicnal backlash of people that have never left thier living room or read on history book.

I think its great that these guys track "classified" space vehicles. Having a public source of information of what every country is doing in space isn't a bad thing.
The weaponization of space isn't a real good idea and now through these guys the public can monitor its progress and offer input before it happens.

Ya. I'm pretty sure that he has no resources that any potential enemy doesn't have too. Especially considering that during the cold war the Soviets pretty much had all our major secrets due to our lax security and their ability to write big checks.

Agreed. There's no prohibition against looking at stuff that anyone with publicly available equipment can see. They can't prohibit you from looking up whenever and wherever you want.

Just to reiterate, HE's the one who says he's been called a threat to national security, not any government official.

As far as I'm concerned, if it's up there, and can be seen, then people are free to take as many happy snaps as they want.

Was in New York a couple weeks ago, and got stopped from taking pics of an old picturesque power station, and an F350 dual cab dual wheel 4WD truck with a canopy in the name of National Security.

Back when the SR71 (IIRC) came out for its super-high altitude sureveilance everyone said the enemy knew our satellites and hid all the good stuff under camo nets for the five minutes our bird was overhead. Since satellites generally don't change orbiting speed or direction it's not much of a secret where they are once discovered.

Yes, but you were a foreigner in the land of Liberty and Freedom. What made you think you had the right to take those images?

Reminds me of the time my dear departed dad and I got a tour of the gatehouse at Sardis Dam in MS back in 1990. I started taking pictures of 1930s technology and one of the park rangers told me that he needed to take my film!
"This is a federal government installation! he exclaimed.

His partner told me to forget it.....nothing in there that is top-secret. Unless the power control board, complete with antique dials and switches is top-secret!

In the old days, the Soviets could [and would!] get more information about our space program from a common USA newspaper and magazine rack than we could about their internal goings on.

But if this guy can obtain this type of info , so can anyone else with an interest. And other countries have interest!
We

have a lot going on that is not so easily discernable.

Still, this is almost treasonous to me. Because of his intent, and the possibility of hurting this country. His glory and ego are superceding what I consider obvious right and wrong.

How can this be teasonous if this guy is South African? I would think he should be free to look into space; afterall something may be about to fall on him..

If it's up there and can be seen, it's fair game to be looked at and commented on.

Once thrown out into space, if he could read the circuitry on the ICBs, and publish sketches on the internet, it's still fair game IMO once the object has been released into a public domain such as space.

If he can do it with amateur affordable gear, then what he's telling the world is nothing compared to what the powers of the world would be doing with their gear.
