Grand Caravan oil consumption, update

I had checked my oil in a flat, even, concrete parking lot after it had sit for some time. I was about 3/4ths of a quart low. I checked it this evening in my driveway (gravel and fairly even) after it had sit several hours. It showed to be almost full. Could it be that the oil is somehow staying in some engine recess and not draining back down, thereby giving the appearance of being low?

It could be the anti-drain back in the filter, however the filter would have to be sideway's for the oil to drain back to the pan. However, if the gravel area is a little off the oil will rise or lower depending on the dipstick side.

Really, use a good Amsoil filter and the XL series 5-20 until you get past the warranty period. Then "hope" Amsoil will have a 5-20 group 5 that compares to Redline or Royal Purple for a once a year OCI of around 15K.

My old Dodge van with a 318 took a long time to drain the oil into the pan. I could check the oil in the morning and find the dipstick reading right on the full mark. After a couple hours running, the stick would show it 3/4 qt down after 15-20 minutes of standing. In the morning, it would again read full.
This was using AMSOIL 10W-40 (only one available back in those days), and I have no comparison with non-synthetics in that application.

One quart in 300 miles? There is a misprint or the dealer is an idiot. Maybe 3000 miles which for any of my cars is excessive as I use about 1/4 quart per 6,000 miles.

Well, after about 1500 miles, I had to add a quart. This is with using Havoline 5w30. Not sure which direction to go next.
