so i was doing some spirited driving... heard a pop... then smelled coolant...

got her shut down before the temp gauge barely moved... no major damage to the radiator.
next decision is electric fan or go with OEM clutch/blades....
 
When the fan 'grenades' itself, there is an underlying issue that caused it. Check your waterpump (shaft) for excess play/wobble. I'd just outright uninstall it and physically check it. Next I would check your engine mounts and transmission mounts. You may not notice any suspecting vibrations, but if the driveline isn't straight and solid, then you get that transfered to the nose of the car, possibly causing the engine to shift/move a bit, and the fan then hits the radiator and/or plastic shroud.

As far as clutch/fan or electrical fan goes, Id go oem. Both have pros and cons and personally, I like the clutch/fan combo. Came that way from the factory, so I leave it like that
