Went to all the local Auto Zones today and scored 29 quarts for $2 bucks a piece! My dilema.,,,2014 Toyota Sienna XLE speced for 0w20. Do ya all think 0w30 will hurt anything? The van has got about 6,300 miles on it. I've got a Lexus GX 470 that will love it as well.

Being in North Carolina I don't think the 0w-30 would be a problem. With your Sienna still under warranty it may be several years before you can use the 0w-30.

Not good. you shouldn't use it.

I'll give you $2.50/qt for it....

For NC it will be fine. I am running 0w30 in my CTS right now just fine and I am further north than you.

Why would a 0w be a problem anywhere?

WARSTUD,

I'm not worried about the 0, I more concerned about the 30 viscosity opposed to the 20.

Why would the 30 be a concern?

I had an 01 escape v-6 that was spec'd for 5w 20. I ran m1 0w 30 with no issues , engine had close to 200k and ran great. I tried 5w20, 0w 30 and even 5w 40 t-6, no difference in fuel economy. The engine seemed the smoothest on the 0w 30.

The 30 would be a concern to me if it were a thick 30 like 0W-30 Castrol Edge. But in this case the M1 AFE is on the thin side and probably acts more like a 25 grade in the end. If it were my vehicle under warranty, I wouldn't use it.

[censored]! I did the same thing last year, right near christmas when they began cleaning stuff out and collected 40 quarts for $1/qt. But I'd collect it for $2/qt as well, now I have to start checking all the Autozones to see if they've fired up the old super sales!!

It's just as thick as Mobil1's 5w30 and 10w30. Where do you get 25 grade from?

SAE Grade 0W-30
Viscosity @ 100ºC, cSt (ASTM D445) 10.9
Viscosity, @ 40ºC, cSt (ASTM D445) 62.9
HTHS Viscosity, mPa•s @ 150ºC (ASTM D4683) 3.0

SAE Grade 5W-30

Viscosity @ 100ºC, cSt (ASTM D445) 11.0
Viscosity, @ 40ºC, cSt (ASTM D445) 61.7
HTHS Viscosity, mPa•s @ 150ºC (ASTM D4683) 3.1

SAE grade 10W-30
Viscosity @ 100ºC, cSt (ASTM D445) 10.1
Viscosity, @ 40ºC, cSt (ASTM D445) 63.2
HTHS viscosity, mPa•s @ 150ºC (ASTM D4683) 3.0

I looked Monday at my nearest AZ, only thing they had left was 10W-40 EP and it was $4 a quart...

It acts just like any other ILSAC 30 grade at operating temperatures.

Thanks for all of the comments. I feel OK using it in the summer months.

Happy Holidays fellow oil lovers!

0W-20 is the minimum recommended grade, not the absolute recommended grade. Thicker grades are also recommended by Toyota for any of their cars. Every Toyota owner's manual clearly states that the viscosity recommended is the minimum viscosity and it's OK to use thicker oil as well:

"An oil with a higher viscosity may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds, or under extreme load condition."
