Gosun solar ev cover

I think a great halfway solution is a carport with real PV panels up top, and some kind of inverter/storage beneath it just for the car. Granted, you’ll still spend a lot, but some of this is energy independence and hobby, it’s not just dollars and cents.

Need a decent about of PV and storage to capture during the day what you’ll need to replenish at night.

Admittedly, and not to be pessimistic, but the PV car cover is a practical disaster. And yes, I’ve hung 3 panels on an RV, have 2 on the cab of my truck, and was published years ago for a small DIY home system. Panels just don’t grab that much power, and they need to be perpendicular to the sun, and they need to be cool, and indirect or reflected light just doesn’t do much, and flexible panels aren’t as good as rigid ones. Seeing that, I’d rather rig the carport!

I do use my garage charger right now. $3k is not a ton of money from my perspective and I like the idea. Agree that paint scratching might be an issue. Might have to put some pads or something on the back side, if they haven't thought of that.
I am sure paint scratching it taken into the design of the panels and wouldnt give it a second thought.
It is more of a concern of laying something on top of a dirty car. It's the dirt on the car that will scratch. Also any dirt picked up on the bottom of the panels during everyday use. Im sure with care it will be fine as long as no one steals it.

What happens when a slight breeze rolls through? What about the paint? Vandals? Do you have to park facing a certain direction?

$3k for 30 miles per day... Why not just use your 110v charger at night?

Interestingly, condos and even apartments around here have been installing charging stations. Demand...
There are restrictions, of course, but I THINK CA laws or whatever give tenants certain rights to install.
