Good quality, fair priced screw extractor set?

Been searching on this forum for a decent quality, fair priced screw extractor set but many of the recommendations are top end, way over my budget type tools. I was thinking like $25-40, unless I'm dreaming?
I had damage happen to a two-part arm on a lamp, where the arms can adjust and tighten in the middle (desk lamp). The lamp got knocked over pretty hard, the screw/bolt thread cracked in half. The other part is still in the sleeve of the joint. I need a screw extractor to get the rest of it out of there, and then replace the bolt.

I've been looking and I never realized the sea of choices online. None of which I'm sure of the quality. Many reviews are saying these drill bits (in a kit that has the bits and the extractors) are pot metal.. Ok no thanks. So gotta ask..

Anyone know of a decent kit? I measured the bolt it's 6mm total, or 15/64. I know I'd have to drill smaller than that to bit into what's left.

I bought a not to expensive set of left handed drill bits as recommended on here. The fact that you are drilling left, as it warms up, you may not even need the extractor. That worked for me that way. I never thought of the left handed bits or maybe even that they existed.

That's an excellent idea! And since it's only a lamp, not much torque would be needed to free up the broken off stud. What brand did you buy?

I prefer fluted extractors to spiral.

This is kinda like treating wounds in the field: never know what you're going to run into. Watch for deals on every and any style because each situation is unique.

That said, the foundation of any collection should be LH bits. They're simple, basically universal and work 90% of the time.

And personally I don't include or consider traditional EZ-outs. I only see people get in trouble when they snap.

Although I understand this is a budget friendly post, with extractors you get what you pay for. I always go tool truck because my dealer warranties everything except small left hand drill bits. Extractors seem to always be something that breaks or strips.
